Ao Oni: Aftermath
A downloadable game for Windows

This is the new walkthrough for the game as of Version 2.0 (2 years late, but better late than never). Visit this page whenever you get stuck and feel like you need some help. The guide for the achievements are at the bottom of the page.

Act 1

- - - - - - - - - - First Building - - - - - - - - - -
  • First Floor, Bottom Left lockers:  Torn Paper A item.
  • Second Floor, Computer Lab on the top right table: Torn Paper B item.

Assembling both Torn Papers will give the code to the Nurse's Office.

  • Second Floor, Nurse's Office: Small Key

Utilize the Small Key in the locker room of the second floor.

  • Second Floor, Locker Room: Hammer item.

With the hammer you can break the cracked floor in the second floor classroom that's blocked with a sign.

Clock Room Puzzle: The solution for this puzzle can be found below the mirror of the right side's bathroom in the First Floor. Solving it will unlock the Storage Room.

  • Second Floor, Storage Room past the clock puzzle: Plastic Arm item.

Use this arm with the plastic skeleton found in the classroom you found Mika in to get the Courtyard Key.

- - - - - - - - - - Second Building - - - - - - - - - -

Head to the courtyard and into the building at the left to continue, as the building up front will remain locked for now.

Sudoku Puzzle: The safe 2 rooms above requires the missing digits from this sudoku. The solution is 751. Solving it will give you the Fuse item.

Switch Puzzle: The switch combination is completely randomized here. In the library room to the left of the sudoku room, you can find the solution, but there's a trick: It's flipped 180 grades, so you'll have to flip the switches based on how the combination looks upside down.

After getting the switch combination correctly you'll need to pull down the lever besides it, as long as you have inserted the fuse into it, and the right building on the courtyard will be unlocked.

- - - - - - - - - - Third Building - - - - - - - - - -

Piano Puzzle:

First room up ahead inside the second building is the piano room: The first hint is the digits 4 (first key) 6 (second key) and 2 (third key).

At the basketball court, continue left to enter a hallway with 2 small rooms. On the room to the top, check the table with a blue bag for another hint:

Blue <-
->

<-

Finally, on the room to the left you will see two laptops and the safe.

If you interact with the laptops, they will flash through a set selection of colors. This is where the hint with the arrows comes in: Interact with the left laptop until it flashes Blue, this is the first color of the combination. Next, interact with the right laptop to get Red, interact again to get Yellow, and then interact with the left laptop to get Green.

Now you can check the safe: Matching the color combination you got of Blue Red Yellow Green with the digits you got from the piano, you can make up the combination of 9264 and get the Library Key.

The library is located on the top left door of the basketball court, push the bookshelf with a dirt trace under it to reveal a hidden staircase into the basement.

- - - - - - - - - - Basement - - - - - - - - - -

Immediately after entering, in the room to the left of the entrance sealed with planks you'll find a statue. From the entrance, to the room above and then to the right, you'll find a switch that unlocks a door only while something is on top of it. Push the statue to this point to keep the door unlocked.

Inside the locked room, you'll find a jail key and a stuck lever that you can't work with yet.

Unlock the jail cell and get the Crowbar inside to be able to open the boarded entrance and progress.

After the hallway, to the left you can find a room with a Philips Head Screwdriver on top of a bookshelf, push the chair to reach it.

From this point, a secret to progress in a certain achievement has shown up.

After meeting Takeshi, you can go all the way up to find a room with several levers (and one of them missing) and a bookshelf stained with blue. Push the chair on Takeshi's room into this room to be able to see above the bookshelf and get the combination to the levers.

Since one of them is missing, you can backtrack to the room where you found the jail key and saw a stuck lever, use the screwdriver here to remove it and take it to the triple lever room.

Now you can follow the lever combination to unlock the metal gate outside and continue to...

Act 2

Up next, is Takuro's section. Pick up the Broom on the bottom right of the room, you will need it later.

Leave the basement and then go upstairs to go to the second floor, to the right of the hallway you'll find an art room to the top, and a room with a hole to the bottom.

Head into the art room and push the statue down the hole to break it and get the Kitchen Key inside it, to open the kitchen all the way up from the room you got the key in.

Inside the kitchen, you'll see an item on the table and a roach guarding it. Try waiting for the roach to get away from the table (and also don't let it look at you from too close) to grab the Knife and leave.

Outside the kitchen, head to the right of the hallway to find a room with a dirty wall. Use the knife in that spot to open it and find a secret door behind.

You'll meet Mika, and she'll give you a Metal Piece for the room to the left of the staircase in the first floor. Go the way she came from to find a room with a hole and a Coin.

You can use the coin on the vending machine besides the staircase to get another Metal Piece.

Insert both metal pieces in the gaps of the wall in the grey room to the left of the vending machine and get the combination for the painting code in the art room upstairs:

Tree
Flower
Bird
Flower
Bird
Tree

After inserting the combination you'll unlock the box and get the Vase B item.

From this point, a secret to progress in a certain achievement has shown up.

You can get the Vase A item by returning to the (now empty) kitchen and using the broom to reach the vase above the fridge.

Both vases are for the small room in the basement with two pedestals on the sides. Upon inspecting them you can see each vase icon got a different amount of water on them, which means you'll have to place each vase with the specified amount of water required.

In the kitchen you'll find sinks to fill the vases with water:

Left Vase: Fill 1/4
Right Vase: Fill 3/4

After inserting both vases with the right amount of water, the safe will open and you'll get a Rope Ladder for the hole in the room you found the coin in. After heading down, you'll proceed to...

Act 3

Back to Hiroshi.

From this new section, head to the room to the left and remove the plank with the crowbar. You will see a tube behind,  but you can't do anything with it yet.

For now, head upstairs and go to the hallway to the right to trigger a scripted chase. After the chase ends a new clue will show up on the window in that same hallway. Use the plank here to discover the true code: 4632.

Now you can unlock the code-locked room all the way to the left which leads you into the valve room, this will be important later.

Head outside to the pool zone, at the top left you'll find an entrance to a small room with a door blocked by a bookshelf. Check the cabinet at the right to find a plastic bottle.

Fill the plastic bottle with pool water and return to the room inside the building with a small tube. Fill it with water to get a red ball.

Head back to the room you found the plastic bottle in and go through the door at the top left, insert the red ball in the pedestal and press it to unlock the drawer right above to find a small key.

Leave this building and head onto the smaller one outside just below it to unlock the locker and find a valve.

Go back to the valve room and insert the valve, drain the water and go to the pool to find a doorknob at the bottom. Head to the building at the top right, insert the doorknob on the door at the top and continue.

Act 4

Mika section. You can find a limbless doll on the table in the second room. You can look at it from 3 different directions, we'll come back to it later.

In the room with the Puppet Oni, there are two paintings:

The first one is at the bottom right wall with the following hint: 26 (red) 355 (yellow) 710 (blue) 8 (green)

You can move the bookshelf on the top to reveal a secret painting behind it with the following hint: (?*?)+?-?

Finally, with all this information now you can look at the table doll from earlier from one of the sides and see that the marks on its face are colored in the following order: Red, Green, Blue, Yellow.

The final equation would be (26*8)+710-355, resulting in 563. You can use this code for the safe in the small room connected to the room with the paintings and find the Wind-up Key item.

Stand behind the table doll and use the Wind-up Key to insert it in the doll. You can now interact with the wind-up key to turn it around, but you need to get the combination for it. Something changed in the Puppet Oni room after this, so you can go back there and go into the room with a blue trail which was previously locked.

There's a group of dolls on a table, with several of them looking towards different directions and a number on them. This is the order that you gotta turn the wind-up key in: Left 2x, Right 1x, Right 7x, Left 3x, Left 4x.

After turning the wind-up key correctly, the Doll Head will fall off and you'll obtain it. You can burn it in the room with the small fire to get the Basement Key.

Enter the basement and survive the encounter.

After leaving the puppet arena and going into the normal basement: You'll find a tile puzzle if you go all the way up from the entrance, but you cannot do anything with the puzzle yet, so grab the Glue on the table for now.

Back to the entrance, there's a big locked metal door, which requires a keycard to be opened.

There's also an L shaped hallway if instead you head to the left and into the bottom door.

All the way down, you'll find a hallway full of water, so you'll have to come back here later.

In the bottom right corner of the hallway, enter the top door to access a room with bookshelves and a locker. Interact with the locker to get a Broken Plastic Card.

With the glue, you can put it together and get a functioning Plastic Card. Now you can open the metal gate and go back to the pool zone from the last act. Go back into the room that had a valve in it and turn it to drain the water from that one hallway in the basement.

In the hallway, you'll find a Crowbar. Go to the tile puzzle room and find a duplicated tile to take it off with the crowbar. Go back to the upper floor and unlock the room that's boarded up. You'll find a locked box and a wall panel with tiles similar to the one in the puzzle except for one that's missing. Use the tile and insert it here to unlock the box and get a Small Key.

The small key unlocks the bottom right door in the L shaped hallway in the basement. Find Takuro and Takeshi and combine your items with theirs to regain the Knife and the Broom.

From this point, a secret to progress in a certain achievement has shown up.

In the room with the bookshelves and the locker, there's a Flat Head Screwdriver on top of a bookshelf that you can take with the broom.

You can use it to remove the lever switch besides the metal gate, bring it all the way to the other metal gate in the upper floor and regain access to the zone where you last controlled Hiroshi.

You are now reaching the end.

Upstairs, you'll find multiple rooms:

To the left, a locked door, to the right, a room with 3 flower pots and a 1 Dice, plus a carpet that has a crooked corner you can interact with to reveal a 6 Dice below. All the way to the top, a room with 2 flower pots and a 2 Dice, along with a small shadow in the center of the room that you can interact with.

If you go to the third floor, you'll find:

To the left, a room with 5 flower pots, a rope that you can cut with the Knife (this will drop an Office Key in the room where there was a shadow), and a bookshelf that you can push to find a 4 Dice.

Now you can unlock the left door near the stairs in the second floor and find 4 flower pots, a 5 Dice, and a 3 Dice hidden below a box you can push.

Every flower room leads up to a combination: The total flower pots in each room are a number, and the dice in that room are the digit they go in. (For example, the carpet room has 3 flower pots, and the 1 and 6 dice, which would add 3xxxx3 to the code so far.)

With every room and the hints they give, the final code would add up to 324543. Obtain the Basement Key from the safe, and then you'll have to follow a plot event after this. Go all the way to the basement to unlock the Oni Room. Open the gate and escape, then return after the chase is over to get a Plastic Card inside the jail cell.

Go all the way to the third floor and unlock the Rooftop with the plastic card.

There's two small buildings: In the top building you'll find 3 paintings with the following hints:

  • Square = 2
  • Triangle = 4
  • Circle = 3

In the bottom building, you'll find a safe, a bed you can push to reveal a secret staircase and 2 paintings with the following hints:

  • Pentagon = 5
  • Hexagon = 1

All the numbers you got are the digit where their respective shapes would go in. To get the code numbers out of each shape, count their sides. (For example, Square (4 sides), would add x4xxx to the code thus far.)

The final code would be 64035 to unlock the safe and get a Jail Cell Key to unlock the cell in the hidden staircase below the bed.

Open the cell, survive the chase and return to be able to grab the Entrance Key, now you'll have to make a run for the entrance in the very first building!
