Major update v1.6 - New items and tools!

After six months of intense development, Coop Catacombs v1.6 is finally here!

This massive update brings over a hundred new features, balance changes, and bug fixes. From new traps, magical tools, and improved item generation to smarter monsters and expanded combat mechanics—every corner of the dungeon has evolved.

Changelog v1.6

New Features and Additions

Gameplay Enhancements

  • New Trap: Magic Drain – drains charges from magical items (staffs and pendants).
  • New Trap: Disarmament – unequips all your items and drops them to the floor.
  • Fortune Cookies – heals 8 HP, shows a humorous message, and has a 1% chance to grant +1 Luck.
  • Apples now drop when chopping trees and heal 12 HP.
  • New system for displaying defense stats of armor on the ground.
  • Magic Find Scroll – reveals all item positions on the current floor.
  • Wish Fountain – throw an item and get a random item of the same category.
  • Night Cycle Messages – new messages appear when entering the dungeon at night or midnight.
  • Own Items after Death – you may find your previous character’s items marked with your name.
  • Poison Staff now also deals 2d8+2 instant damage upon hit.
  • Water Potions now extinguish fire in a 3x3 area and make monsters more susceptible to electric damage.
  • Dungeon Ice Blocks can be melted to reveal hidden loot or monsters.
  • New Decorative Elements – spider webs, dirt and wall holes add visual variety.
  • Enhanced Dungeon Loot System – item generation now depends on dungeon level and depth.
  • Autowalk Improvements – now moves over player bones and messages.
  • Examining Enemies now shows improved threat level assessment.
  • Max charges for staffs and pendants increased to 50.
  • Teleport Trap now has a 50% chance to confuse the player.
  • Monster detection an event is now shown when they detects you.
  • Scroll of Fire now burns enemies around the player on use.
  • Scroll and Potion of Wisdom now grant slightly more XP.
  • Staffs now deal slightly less base melee damage.
  • Ranged enemy attacks now deal slightly more damage.
  • Thrown objects may miss with a 12% base chance; accuracy scales with Luck and Strength.
  • Perception Ring effect slightly reduced.
  • New Status Effects:
    • [Flanked]: Surrounded by 2+ monsters increases your chance to be hit by 35%.
    • [Open Stance]: Axes gain +15% hit chance when not near walls.
    • [Closed Stance]: Polearms gain +15% hit chance when near 3+ walls.

Items and Equipment

  • New Tools added:
    • Shovel: Allows digging in grass and unearthing graves.
    • Pickaxe: Breaks graves, ice blocks, and walls.
    • Flute: Puts snakes (and other monsters) to sleep, reveals exit location.
    • Bell: Slows visible monsters, may teleport them.
    • Feather: Restores health, grants strength and defense, and teleports the player.
  • New Crowns:
    • Mindveil Crown – prevents confusion.
    • Blinkstep Crown – teleports player when HP is low.
  • New Cloaks:
    • Blightward Cloak – resists poison and corrosion.
    • Emberguard Cloak – protects from fire and slows its spread.
    • Spellvoid Cloak – resists magic and boosts staff damage.
    • Shadow Cloak – grants invisibility.
  • New Gloves:
    • Lich Gloves – may prevent charge use on staffs/pendants.
  • New Shoes:
    • Evasion Shoes – may avoid trap activation.
  • New Weapon:
    • Silver Lance – low melee damage, strong ranged throw.
  • Item Descriptions Overhaul – armor, shields, and many other items now have updated descriptions.
  • Wisdom Potion/Scroll – now also identifies one random item.
  • Awareness Potion renamed to Telepathy – only reveals monsters.
  • Pendant of Awareness renamed to Twin Veil – randomly grants Awareness or Telepathy.
  • New Scroll – Scroll of Awareness: reveals traps.
  • New Inventory Slot – inventory increased from 20 to 21 slots.
  • Visual Equipment – helmets and cloaks now display on the character.

Monsters and AI

  • Floating Eye – now uses ranged attacks and causes confusion 75% (was 100%).
  • Beholder – now detects invisible players and causes confusion 75% (was 100%).
  • Myconids – drain magical equipment more often and more severely.
  • Centaurs – shoot more frequently.
  • Skeletons – increased defense (6 → 7) and drop bones instead of blood.
  • Gelatinous Cube – now red, increased HP and defense, steals an item on hit.
  • Hellhounds and Dragons – explode with fire on death (explosive trait).
  • Ghosts – reduced base damage and spawn rate in early levels.
  • Fire Orb – slightly nerfed.
  • Monsters now speak/shout more often and patrol less.
  • Ranged Monster Attacks – increased base damage and shoot every 16 turns (was 18).
  • Minimum Monster Hit Chance increased from 15% to 18%.
  • Minimum Player Hit Chance reduced from 16% to 15%.
  • Stealers always steal on first attack, even on a miss.
  • Heavy Monsters only trigger revealed traps.
  • Spike Traps may now poison.
  • Increased chance to miss ranged attacks while confused from 75% → 80%.
  • All mid and late game monsters have slightly increased base damage and/or defense.
  • Burning or poisoned monsters have their condition durations reduced by 2 turns.
  • Monsters now patrol slightly less.

Player Abilities and Mechanics

  • Miss Chance when Throwing: 12%, reduced by Luck and Strength.
  • Grave Exploit Mitigation: Player only drops loot on death if carrying 3+ items.
  • Lunge Attack Fix – breaks invisibility, deals x2 damage, applies leeching.
  • Counter Attack – daggers, swords, sabres may retaliate 25% of base damage when hit.
  • Shield Bash – Iron and Knight Shields may knock enemies back when dodging (50%).
  • New Mechanic – haste twice causes instant death (player and monsters).
  • Improved Leech/Regeneration Feedback – messages now appear on healing tick.
  • Regeneration Ring – now ticks 20x per level (was 30); cursed version now properly drains life.
  • Luck System – used to recover faster from confusion: chance = (Luck * 10) / 2.
  • Confusion Duration reduced by 5 turns.
  • Attacking while confused now has -20% hit penalty (was 18%).
  • Invisibility Duration reduced to 5 turns. Actions break stealth.
  • Attacking while invisible guarantees at least 75% hit chance.
  • Sound and Strip Traps now cancel invisibility.
  • Timeout for server requests increased from 5s to 10s.
  • Sanctuary glyphs improved – better protect the player and correctly prevent monster attacks.
  • Invisibility now prevents detection even by Alarm Traps.
  • Item Use Disabled while Slimed.

Environment and Balance

  • Grass Reduced slightly in the dungeon.
  • Fire Spread slightly slower.
  • Corrosion Chance on hit increased from 10% → 15%.
  • Reduced Graveyard only 1000 grave entries shown. Your grave will be the first one.
  • HP Gain on Level Up slightly reduced.
  • Vampire Healing reduced.
  • Pendant/Life Potions heal slightly less.
  • Weapon Enchant Scaling nerfed: +1 damage per 4 enchants (was 3).
  • Reflect Damage from Spiked Shield slightly increased.
  • Only monsters with blood leave blood pools.
  • Water Potions appear 5% more often.
  • Crystal Shield breaks 5% less often.
  • Initial Javelins reduced from 6 to 4.
  • Spider Webs reduced density and radius; spiders leave fewer trails.
  • Dungeon walls may now contain visual cracks and holes for added variety.
  • Particle effects added when using magical items, teleporting, and more.
  • Updated loot pool under God Statues – new items can now spawn.

NPCs and Dialogue

  • Vesper has new lines regarding mechanics and lore.
  • New Coop Messages added.

UI and Audio

  • New Title Art.
  • New Sound System – better variety and handling.
  • Enhanced Tooltips and Item Examination.
  • Sound Feedback for Shield Bash and hammer push.
  • New itch.io Button – vote and rate the game.

Bugs Fixed

  • Wall message bug after demolish.
  • Bone tile projectiles blocking.
  • AC miscalculation after corrosion.
  • Leeching not applied correctly.
  • Ring of Masochist with negative enchantment.
  • Regeneration Ring cursed logic fixed.
  • Trap damage under certain ring effects.
  • Gas poison timer exceeding expected duration.
  • Decimal number damage bug.
  • Awareness not revealing traps on new floor.
  • Translocation Staff bugs resolved.
  • Items no longer spawn over walls or NPCs.
  • Writing now prioritizes floor over walls.
  • Potion throw crash after canceling staff use.
  • Phase moon calculations for timed events.
  • Navigation left/right in message selection did not respond.
  • Incorrectly calculation weapon damage with negative enchantments.
  • New Year's event granted too many life potions.
  • New RNG seed system that reduces chance of trap desync issues.
