Hey everyone, and welcome to the very first devlog for my new game: Dungeons of Wyrd!
Dungeons of Wyrd is a 2D top-down dungeon crawler inspired by the Fate series and the Apotheosis mod for Minecraft. It’s all about descending into cursed dungeons, upgrading your gear and spells, and surviving whatever strange magic lurks below.
Here’s what’s already working:
🏠 Title screen — Basic, but functional menu system
🚶 Character movement — 8-directional controls feel smooth and responsive
🧱 Test dungeon room — A simple but playable environment
🧱 Basic collisions and obstacles — You can now explore a super simple dungeon room. WITH IT'S OWN POND!?!?!
It’s still early, but there’s a real "game feel" beginning to emerge, and that’s super motivating.
Now that I can walk around a room and bump into walls, the next goals are:
⚔️ Begin prototyping combat (hitboxes, damage, and maybe a starter spell)
📊 Build the first version of the stat and modifier system (started but in early stages and not final version yet)
💥 Add basic visual feedback for actions (flashes, effects, etc.)
🗝️ Create a placeholder loot pickup and inventory UI
Right now, I’m focusing on feel and structure over visuals. Everything is using basic placeholders, but I’m trying to make sure the foundation (controls, logic, data handling) is strong and flexible before going deeper.
This is just the beginning! I’ll be posting devlogs here as I hit new milestones, and I’d love to hear your thoughts.
If this kind of game interests you, follow the project, drop a comment, or just say hi. Every bit of feedback helps, and it’s way more fun building a game with people watching it come to life.
Thanks for reading — and welcome to the Wyrd!
