UPDATE - 05/23/2025

After the panic yesterday over (briefly) uploading a broken version of Monster Sounds EX, I reached out to my dear friend DrPyspy to sort out the spawner issues. Of course, within an attosecond, Pyspy had rewritten the whole thing to make it work with both DECORATE and DeHacked monster replacements! Wow! While I was at it, I included a few more toggles for randomization and new imps for variety. As with everything MSEX-related, these are optional and don't impact gameplay. But hey, they do impact your eyes!

I hesitate to write "this will be the final version" given that I wrote that same thing two months ago and have been forced to update it for one reason or another, but there's not a whole lot more I can do with this project. I'm sure I can add similar variety options to other monsters and such, but I think at this point I'd (ideally) like to move on. We'll see how that goes!

Also, I updated the front page with a new showcase video! This doesn't show anything new that veteran MSEXers won't be familiar with, but I thought it'd be nice. 😌 Download it from all the usual places!

• [2.0 PK3] Brand-new monster spawning code by DrPyspy! The code has been completely rewritten and now properly checks for both DECORATE and DeHacked monster replacements before replacing them. This should (hypothetically) allow Monster Sounds EX to be as compatible as it can be!
• [2.0 PK3] New Lost Soulite sprites! Rather than using a translation, these are hand-recolored (via the power of my "Personal Computer") and look a tiny bit better.
• [2.0 PK3] New Imps! A variety of imps will replace the default Doom Imp when the EX option is enabled. They're strictly aesthetic too!
• [2.0 PK3] Monster Sounds EX menu now allows for randomization of the Hell Knight and Baron of Hell sprites.
• [2.0 PK3] Added a debug mode toggle to the Monster Sounds EX menu. This will print messages in the console that tell you if a monster is being replaced with its MSEX version.
• [2.0 PK3] Credits file now includes a version number.
