Routing A Link to the Past No Logic earlygame
The goal of this guide is to help you with two things:
- Direct you to learn things that are useful more often (in every seed or multiple times throughout a seed)
- Help you finish seeds more quickly if you want (in my opinion, playing for time makes things a bit more interesting).
Early game
Early game you have two goals:
- Get as many items as possible
- Clear out locations which won't get easier/faster with additional items (now is the time to do them, when you don't have anything)
Below is a typical early game route. Plenty of variations are possible, but generally you'll want to check these places early on.
Lost Woods + Death Mountain Ascent
Water checks
South shore checks
Death Mountain checks
- Timing:
- Spiral cave is much easier with a weapon. It's somewhat recommended to have one, but not required.
- Old man cave start
- Clip (or walk) to Tower of Hera and get the first two chests, then leave
- If you haven't already scouted the items on top of and inside Spectacle Rock, now is a good time to do so.
- Clip to East Death Mountain. https://glitchmaps.mfns.dev/?map=LW&glitch=ndg-EDM-land-bridge-teleport
- Scout floating island and get the item if it's good.
- Spiral cave
- Paradox cave
Kakariko vilage + Desert Palace
- Timing:
- Many glitchless routes go to Kakariko first.
- No Logic has more options, and most of the other options can be completely cleared out in one trip with no items, while Kakariko can't (quite).
- Racers often delay Kakariko until they can clear out more of Kakariko and Desert in one trip
- Items that they're waiting for are:
- For Kakariko: 100 rupees, a bottle, powder (for magic bat, skipping hammer), flute
- For Desert: Cane of Somaria, bottle, big key, glove, book+sword (for tablet).
- You certainly don't need all of these, but the more you have, the more stuff you can check while you're here.
- A ton of items in Kakariko+Desert have no item requirements though, so you can also just go here whenever you want. Don't put it off for too long; there are a lot of free items here.
- Sanctuary start. Get bonk rocks chest if you haven't.
- If you need bombs, you can farm them on the bonk rocks next to the Fortune Teller and enter + exit the building to respawn them. You'll need 3 for the items, and a 4th to farm full bombs in the village. Alternatively, you can buy bombs from the store.
- Blind's hut/chicken hut/well/back of tavern (no item requirements for these 4 (except bombs))
- If going to bat cave with just powder and magic https://glitchmaps.mfns.dev/?map=LW&glitch=ndg-Magic-Bat-screenwrap-transition
- If you have mushroom and Cane of Somaria, you can fake powder. You can also fake powder with powder + cane if your magic is empty.
- Bottle vendor (requires 100 rupees) and sick kid (requires bottle)
- This is a bit niche, but FYI if you have a bottle with a good bee in it, release it near the vendor and he will give you 100 rupees.
- Farm bombs in the bombable hut if you want.
- Library and race game (note: you don't actually have to do the race game. You can teleport from the ledge below).
- Clip to Desert. https://glitchmaps.mfns.dev/?map=LW&glitch=ndg-Desert-teleport Check the ledge item, and go in the side of the palace to get the two free checks.
- You can do more, but it depends on what items you have. Three common choices are listed here, but you can also potentially go to Swamp, defeat the boss, and more.
- If you have a bottle, it's common to do a door glitch to Thieves Town attic and get the chest + bomb the floor for later. You can then come back https://glitchmaps.mfns.dev/?map=EG1&glitch=ndg-TT-to-DP-Right-Clip and get the two chests on right side desert.
- With Somaria you bomb the attic, then go downstairs in TT, take the key, die on the spikes and use the key in Desert to open the right side door.
- The cane messes up north/south door transitions. That's why you can't come back in the same way as the bottle method (but that open desert door can now be used to get to Swamp if desired).
- P.S. With the bottle method, you have to go down to hit a switch first, so you need to use the key in Thieves to get back up.
- If you have 0 items, you can still check the desert right side with a quadrant glitch. https://glitchmaps.mfns.dev/?map=EG1&glitch=dg-DP-Right-Quadrant-Glitch
- You can leave and do the desert overworld checks. Aginah and cave 45 are free. Checkerboard requires glove, and tablet requires book + sword.
You may have noticed that the decision making got more complicated near the bottom of the list: "if you have X then you can go to Y, but if you have Z then instead you can..." Welcome to midgame :) (you can keep it simple and ignore a lot of the complexity if you want; it's just to keep things interesting as you play over and over.)
