Sangolin, Ui improvement and settings menu!

Unlich - Demo
A downloadable game for Windows and Linux

Hello everyone!

It's been a while—sorry about that. I had a mild case of burnout and, for the first time in a year, went a couple of weeks without working on Unlich. That’s behind me now, and I’m fully back on the grind train.

Today’s update is mostly focused on continuing the UI improvements, but it also introduces a new starter and wraps up a couple of new systems.

1. Sangolin

Sangolin is the 8th starter added to the game, out of the 10 planned! It’s vicious but loyal, and don’t let its small size fool you—it packs a punch.

Gameplay-wise, Sangolin focuses on charge attacks and bleed mechanics, gaining buffs when enemies are bleeding. It can also cause bleeding with its charge attacks.

To acquire it, you’ll need to give a mix of malicious and compassionate responses during the Tarot quiz. (Yeah, I know—strange combo, but something had to answer to that!)

It’s supposed to have a digging overworld ability, but that’s not in the game yet—hopefully in the next patch!

2. Damage Bar Improvements

While the damage calculation itself hasn't changed, the damage bar has been completely reworked!

It now clearly shows:

  • Whether an attack will be effective or not

  • Buffs/debuffs from being in the frontline or backline

  • Percentage increases from attack and defense stats

3. Shop UI Improvements

The shop UI has been cleaned up with better spacing and scaling to improve clarity. I’ve also finally added the selling system—so go get rich!

4. Settings Menu

A basic Settings Menu is now in! For now, it lets you:

  • Adjust music and SFX volume

  • Enable/disable quest markers

Next patch, I’m planning to add a simple difficulty slider as well.

That’s all for today! Thanks so much to anyone still keeping an eye on the game. I’m working hard to clean things up while continuing to build new content.

Hopefully, there will be a new demo—both here and on Steam—by the end of the year. Until next month, keep an eye out for Skullder, the next starter in line!

—Cheers
