Hello, everyone!
After a month of very intense game devving, Moonlit Blessed is complete!
This project came a bit out of nowhere. I’ve had the idea in mind for a while about making a story where the protagonist is the friend of the Hero instead of the Hero, but hadn’t developed it much. It was one of those short story ideas I get every so often and think, “I’ll save it for a Game Jam!”. It wasn’t until I heard of the RPG Maker 2025 Game Jam that I thought “wait, this is the chance!”, and started planning more of the idea. Soon I had a more developed concept I was happy with.
What to say, I don’t think I’ve ever written so much in such a short time before like… ever. This might be my longest game to date. And I made it in… only a month…? (Where is this superpower when I need it for my main projects?) The theme of the jam is “beyond expectations”, and I feel like I’ve definitely surpassed my own by far at least.
In Moonlit Blessed, the way I tried to apply the theme was by making the concept you would usually expect a bit different. Instead of the hero, you play as the hero’s friend, and there’s also some surprises they’ll find along the way. I wanted to make the two characters very contrasting: one of them struggles with the many expectations put in them, while the other struggles with the lack of them. I also challenged myself to make it possible to change their genders and names. Regardless of how they'll be in your adventure, I hope you’ll enjoy them!
Of course, this being a Game Jam, there’s always some stuff that ends up being cut. I’ve got some plans to for the future that I’d like to implement:
Of course, any feedback or bug reports are always welcome! I really hope the Scene Select menu doesn’t break again! I finished putting it together with paper and glue like four days before the deadline at 9am without sleep and somehow it works decently!! Truly a miracle.
Anyway, that’s it for now. I hope you'll enjoy Moonlit Blessed! If you liked it, check out my other projects too! If I may recommend, Stories of the Dreaming World or Goodbye Tired Stars are the most similar to it. :’)
Until next time!
