Hello everyone,
Happy April Fools (Long-haired Shyloh remains nothing more than a figment of our collective imagination— sorry!)
Time flies— can you believe it’s been a whole month since the patch update?! And honestly? I couldn’t be prouder of how it turned out. Seeing you all play, share your thoughts, and just exist alongside this little passion project means everything to me. Not gonna lie, I'm an absolute failure at marketing (seriously, just look at my posts on Twitter/Bluesky), so I was terrified the update would flop... but phew, that worry melted away thanks to all of you!
On that note, I was a bit surprised that (as far as I know) we didn’t get any new streams of CA, even though so many folks were doing playthroughs of Yandere Jam games. I even put together a whole press kit, thinking it’d help with exposure, but hey, sometimes things just don’t go as planned.
Still, I’m holding out hope for a ‘Chromatic Agape takes indie gamedev by storm’ moment— someone, please, be the hero who makes it happen XD
But okay, let’s talk about what’s been happening, aka, my rollercoaster of emotions in game dev form.
Let’s start with the EXCITING stuff... WE GOT FANART!!!
Huge shoutout to the absolute legend Pipalapeda for the gorgeous Helios art! My soul ascended the moment I saw it. Should I add another Helios CG as a reward? Hmmm…
ALSO!! The artwork and music assets are officially DONE! Yes, I am screaming. Please imagine me twirling dramatically in a field of flowers. Now, all that’s left is tracking down the right SFX once I start coding the script (not yet though, because I’m still recovering from the patch LOL).
Speaking of the script— we edited 10k words this month!
ALSO, big milestone alert: we hit 15k downloads! This wouldn’t have been possible without all of you, and I honestly couldn’t be happier. We even made a celebratory post (though fair warning— TW: Yulen has a gun to his head in it. We censored the gun itself to avoid getting reported, but just a heads-up in case you want to skip it!).
And we did an interview with Otome.com where we talked all about CA's backstory, story elements, and some fun behind-the-scenes stuff. Definitely check it out~
Unfortunately, we’ve had a wave of troll players coming through— some dropping 1-star ratings with no explanation, others leaving “delete the game” as their entire review (so insightful, truly). And because of how Itch’s algorithm works, even a single 4-star rating can pull the average down more than a handful of 5-stars can lift it up. That means low ratings without feedback don’t just sting, they actively hurt the game’s visibility.
At the end of the day, if a game isn’t your cup of tea, that’s totally fine. Everyone has their own preferences. But there’s no need to tear it down just because it’s not for you. If you do have constructive feedback, we genuinely welcome it! It helps us improve and make the game better for everyone. But vague low ratings without context? Those just hurt everyone involved, including the people who are truly enjoying the game.
That’s all for now! Progress is steady, and we’re keeping our pace as we move forward. If you’d like to support the game, leaving a rating or a comment would mean the world!
Until next time~
