Hey everyone! SUPER PHANTASY FIGHTERS Version 1.5 is HUGE!!!! Lots of content, balances, and fixes were done in this update since I was ahead of schedule, and to be honest I really stretched myself thin making this. But it was worth it! Now, buckle up, cause this dev log is LONG. Drumroll, please!
The two big lovable bosses from Wopal are here!
Rheo Madullard (CV: EX Voice A23/Moai Iwashita) is a giant lizard who can use his tongue to thwack opponents with! He can also grab and bite you! He is also capable of bulldozing through the stage as well as body slamming.
Org Blan (CV: EX Voice 104/Cho), on the other hand… is a brute! This fierce orca can claw, bodyslam, and whip his tail. He is considerably big and clunky, so you can’t have him carelessly unleash attacks, as he can move very far!
This huge, beautiful, magnificent, MAGNUM-sized gladiator is here to slay anything and everything that blocks his path! This guy is HUGE and is one of, if not the most, biggest and heaviest fighter in the roster. He has huge attacks that can almost reach the entire stage, not to mention how heavy his attacks can be, at the cost of his completely poor speed and mobility, as well as not being able to Step. He is ideal if you prefer to be stationary and attack opponents as they even start to run towards you. This guy was one of the hardest to tune when I did my playtesting.
Dorumble’s a bit tricky to get used to, as Douran or Dorill alone deal very little damage. However, if they’re together, they can cause some serious double trouble (badum tss) and can wobble whoever they attack! And finish it off with the Ground-Chomp Eruption! Taunting will teleport Dorill right behind you, so if you lose her, just taunt to call her back. Also, losing Dorill is of little consequence. If she falls off the stage or gets KO’d, she will respawn and no points/stock will be penalized.
ZEEENCHI!!!!! Falz Angel’s directional attacks are mostly forward, with some close-ranged backward reach as well. His weak spot is his back, so when you fight against multiple opponents, you may want to reposition yourself.
This Dark Falz (Apprentice) is mostly close-ranged, utilizing daggers with precise timing. Her up-smash is also a frame-zero attack, so if you’re getting wobbled, or constantly getting stunlocked, or grabbed by an opponent, use it to escape!
Next in line is this diabolical guy, who can change elements: fire, ice, thunder, wind, and Purge (non-element), each having some situational advantage at close- to medium-range. You can shoot fireballs, icicles, cast lightning, and cast strong gusts of wind! The taunt, Gate of Babylon, is also an ultimate kill move with a long startup. During the match, you can switch elements by pressing the L/R shoulder buttons, and the element is immediately switched according to the icon on-screen.
Okay, finally, the last fighter. I heard you LOVED fighting Masquerade in NGS lately, right? Right!? Well now you can play AS him! If you love fighting with swords, you might also love this guy. He can also bend the rules and step to the side of the stage and grab his opponents and shred ‘em off the stage! Lastly, he can do the iconic time slash attack, his deadliest move. He can perform quick, devastating slashes, with some technical skill needed in order to fully utilize him. With his Normal attacks, JA at the right time, multiple times, to perform variations. Not every fighter can be grabbed due to their size, so you have to JA the same PA again to alternatively stab them! This also works when you miss a grab and need to compensate. His Step can make him invincible for a brief amount of time, so use this to your advantage!
The home of the mighty Dragon-Ex and the other Dragonkin of the sky in Planet Amduskia. The ceiling has floating pillars of various heights, making a “ceiling” with gaps so to speak, so make sure if you launch your opponents in the air, they fly between them!
A once-used facility created by Luther, that has long been overrun as a habitat for the Oceanids. A simple, big arena with ledges on the side you can jump on.
Sorry Sonic fans, but I’m probably going to trigger your PTSD with this one. The Chaos Angel stage from Sonic Advance 3 will have you fight on a floating platform with some platforming needed to jump over obstacles and dodge falling boulders!
It’s recess! Wait!? These guys aren’t Phantoms!?
Ah, my favorite dating spot. Remember when Phaleg used to kick your ass? Well now you get to relive that special moment by fighting at the ESC-A tower! This cold, chilly atmosphere from the altitude will definitely conjure up some intense one-on-one showdowns accompanied by Phaleg’s own battle theme!
Things are about to get a little FREAKY here… The ominous Es=Ars Emblem Chamber from EPISODE 5 will have you fighting for your life with the accompanying horror-themed music straight out of Rise of Nightmares.
We’re heading back to Ragol, onto the island of Gal Da Val! The terrain here is a bit bumpy… so if you got attacks that propel you, you might wanna watch out!
Finally the LAST piece of content then I’ll shut up. Take a trip back to Las Vegas, and cruise on a UFO around the Paris Hotel district, amidst a colorful evening fireworks spectacular! Be careful not to get left behind as the UFO takes off, else you’ll get KO’d. Have the time of your life as you blast music from RHYTHM THIEF and BAYONETTA, and of course, you can’t forget about the iconic song that plays in the Easter Emergency Quests, E.G.G.M.A.N.! In this stage, you will fly– and feel– so high! I had a fun time making this stage, and this is personally one of my favorites.
The game now utilizes the Unity Addressables System! What this means is that when you download new releases of the game via the itch app, you should hopefully have smaller download sizes instead of redownloading the entire game every time I push an update or hotfix. Previously this was the case with just the music, but now it's with game data! I am still in the process of transitioning to the Addressables system, so for now expect large downloads, but eventually they should be much smaller unless I’m doing major content updates or reworks.
And as always, it is my pleasure making this game. If you read all the way to the end, I personally congratulate you!
Please share it with other PSO2 fans! And let’s get Popona to play this on stream before she graduates!!!
