No upload this month. I’ve made a lot of progress finishing core gameplay systems like inventory/equipment, but it’s gonna take a few more weeks to finalize the details and get everything working again.
I’ll continue with gameplay, itemization, spells, buffs, etc (just a bunch of junk for testing at first) and tweakable simulation settings in lieu of balancing. This includes an effort over the next few months to implement the most challenging gameplay-related engine features: AI, navmesh pathfinding, full collisions, and camera spring arm. Jigglebones too - we need them for hair/cloth physics as well as butts, thighs, and glorious 18th-century booba. I’ll be satisfied if I can finish that and the other major graphics systems - lighting, shaders, particle FX - within the first year of this project. We can refine everything over the next few years.
Big picture - with the engine and gameplay approaching ‘minimally complete’ status, I want to spend more time on art and writing, develop the setting and characters, and set a clear sense of direction for the tech demo and the full game. I want a little 1700s frontier village with some internal conflicts for a vampire to exploit - in particular, a coven of edgy proto-goth chicks secretly dabbling in witchcraft. Hell yeah.
I guess it’s also worth mentioning that I’m now fully committed to Sanguine Sanguinity as a vampire sim tech demo, which officially makes it a shitpost - the name, cover art, content and everything - i.e. I’m just having fun with it and not trying to tackle everything I need/want for a serious full-fledged vampire RPG. That’ll come in due time, God willing.
