Hello detectives.
After some deliberation, I've decided to replace the previous cover with a new one, also by Boocanan (the original cover artist). While I still really like the 'melting detective' of the original cover, it was inspired by and intended to replicate the style of an early generative "AI" blob-figure. Obviously, that aesthetic has not aged well at all, and I've found that a lot of prospective players have found the cover somewhat off-putting. I commissioned Boo to compose a new cover that has the same collage-y, conspiratorial noir energy without that specific touchstone. I think she's done a fantastic job with it, and the new color palette also closer fits the internal blue paper color, so I'm very happy with this. The old cover version will still be available for download, if you want it.
I'm also hoping to put together The Case of the Scrimshander, another playtest case file from my own table: a gothic mystery set on a 19th Century whaling ship. That should be available sometime this year, and like The Case of the Signal Fire I intend to make it available for free. The main challenge right now is getting it together to make an annotated map of a whaleship, and making enough Grand Definition Investigation writeups for all the whaling lingo I want to include.
I'm also working on another game entirely, called Our Only Stupid Hope, which will be substantially smaller than Detect or Die, but I hope will be a fun time. After that, I've got another project, and after that another, but that's much further in the future, especially since I'm working on my PhD dissertation.
Best,
BPSK
