Devlog #3 + Patch #2 (February 2025)

Chromatic Agape [New Demo]
A downloadable game for Windows, macOS, Linux, and Android

Hello everyone,

Patch #2 is now live! This update has been a labor of love— literally blood, sweat, and tears (so many tears). I strongly encourage all CA  fans to dive in and experience the changes.

I feel a bit embarrassed that the old version stayed up for as long as it did with all those bugs, but I really hope this update makes up for it.

Feel free to rate the game and drop your thoughts in the comments section of our game page!

Patch Details

As mentioned in Devlog #1, the major changes include the following, along with some new additions:

~Script

  • Sev’s Initial Meeting with Shyloh: Some found Sev too apathetic here. The intent was to show her struggling to trust the nameless pixie's sudden affection, but due to popular request, this has been adjusted.

  • Post-Injection Scene: Sev’s reaction after stopping Shyoh (from choking Helios) was apparently a bit harsh, so I’ve added a short extra scene. Now, you’ll have the option to explore her perspective with more empathy.

  • "Why Didn’t Sev Go Back with Shyloh?" This was the biggest complaint by far. While I needed Sev to earn points with the pixies for future route calculations, I’ve adjusted the dialogue to satisfy the criticism.

  • Helios vs. Kai: Helios’s belittling of Kai was too obvious/antagonistic. I’ve rewritten portions of these interactions to make Helios’s dislike more subtle and layered.

  • Weapon Summoning Scene: Some asked why Sev didn’t summon a bigger weapon (e.g. a flamethrower) to fight the pixies. I thought it was inferred, but to clarify, the limitation is Sev’s familiarity with the weapon in real life. I’ve addressed this in a new illusionary choice where you can pick from multiple weapon options— yes, flamethrower included.

  • Kai's Veil Scenes: There has been some confusion regarding the purpose behind Kai's use of the veils. While I want to leave room for interpretation, I’ve added an extra scene to better illustrate some of its mechanics, something I originally planned to save for the full release.

There are also some other minor script changes you’ll notice as you play, though it’s too much to list out. I went full Chekhov’s Gun on some choices, so you might find them rearranged, cut entirely, saved for future individual routes, or even rewritten.

~Art

New VFX effects have been added to better showcase the pixie’s powers! I also refined the code to improve image quality. And I’m using a new type of blur, so you won’t see that choppy effect like in the previous version.

~Programming

I’ve had to reprogram a pretty big chunk of the game from scratch to fix glitches, bugs, and weird movement issues. I also worked on optimizing scene transitions, animations, and sprite expressions, to make everything flow better— especially since CA has a lot of dialogue-heavy moments. Unfortunately, I didn’t have the time, energy, or motivation to fix everything, so you might spot a few issues if you click through some scenes too fast (so, be gentle lol).

There are also some UI updates that you might not notice right away, but trust me, they’re there! On that note, I had to remove the rollback option for now because it was causing the game to break at certain points. I’ll try to bring it back later when I can.

~Audio

On the audio side of things, we’ve replaced the “Parents Theme” with a new version. I also adjusted the sound captions for various audio files (SFX, Ambience, Music) to improve accessibility. Some audio tracks have been tweaked as well— some removed, some reworked, some moved around in the code, and a few new ones added.

February Devlog

Now that the patch announcement is out of the way, let’s dive into the devlog side of things.

I’m feeling better since the illness I mentioned in my last devlog. There’s still some vocal damage that’ll take time to heal, and my sense of smell and taste are still a little off, but I’m getting there!

A huge thank you to everyone who showed concern and left such kind comments, both on the game page and in the aforementioned devlog. I truly appreciate it. Even though I haven’t been able to respond to them individually, I want you to know I’ve read every single one. Your support means the world to me, and I’m grateful to have it.

On the development side, editing has been a bit slower since our editor’s been tied up with other stuff. As for me, I haven’t had much time to work on the script since I’ve been all-in on programming the patch. Now that that’s done, I’m planning to take a short break and then shift my focus completely to the script.

In Closing

A TON of hard work has gone into this, and I’d absolutely love to see your support shine through however you can! Whether it’s rating or reviewing the game, sharing it with friends, making fanart, cosplay, writing fanfic, streaming the game (we’ve got a press kit available now!), or anything else that shows CA fans are out there and not just a figment of my imagination, I’m here for it! <3

Also, If you encounter any issues, kindly fill out this FORM, and we will address them during the next update.

Until next time~
