This is my first-ever game jam, and Iβm feeling super excited and creatively inspired! π¨β¨ The theme, "Breaking the Loop," got me thinking a lot—itβs not just about having a loop in the game, but making it the core mechanic rather than just a background element.
π‘ Brainstorming Ideas
At first, I struggled to find the right approach. Here are some of the ideas I considered:
π Idea #1: Animation Loop Challenge
A game where animated sequences repeat endlessly unless the player clicks at the right place and time to break the cycle. While interesting, this concept would require a lot of graphic assets and intricate puzzle design. Too complex for a jam. β
π° Idea #2: Endless Nightmare Puzzle
Inspired by the looping castle level in Super Mario Bros., this idea involved a horror dream where the character is trapped in an endless cycle until they interpret their own dialogue as clues to escape. While this fit the theme well, it still felt a bit too elaborate. β
π― What Iβm Looking For
I want something simpler, yet clever—a mechanic thatβs easy to grasp but deep enough to be engaging. While Iβm happy with the ideas Iβve explored, I havenβt found "the one" yet.
π΅ Working with Pol
I wonβt be making this game alone! My friend Pol will be handling the music and some of the graphics, but for now, Iβll be working solo for the first few days until he joins in.
