Unexpected resurgence

Scoundrel
A browser game made in HTML5

Hello!

I made this game in 2012 when I finished highschool. That was 13 years ago!

I am now a full time game developer, I’ve been for the last 8+ years and I’ve learn a lot of things both as a coder and a bit of game design has rubbed on me.

For some reason (maybe Balatro related?) this has had a resurgence with more comments and feedback than I ever got when I first released it.

This unexpected resurgence is what pushed me to start working on a new version of Scoundrel. Made with modern tools, for Web, Android and PC (Sorry iOS, I can’t build for you without a mac). Fully offline with optional online features like cross device savedata, leaderboards and seed sharing.

I want to make empahsis on this: Fully offline with optional online features. If this resurgence was possible is because the old version doesn’t need a server running for the game to be played. All servers die at some point, and I think it’s our duty as developers to make sure a game doesn’t die when the server dies.

I also started drafting a game design document for an expanded version with more roguelike features like shops, upgrades, bosses and more…

But I am talking too much, I want to focus on first making the updated version of Scoundrel so we can have a nice way of playing this in 2025.

Hopefully I will have some more progress updates on this new project, meanwhile I want to thank everyone that left a comment for reminding me I made this when I barely knew my tools and pushing me to start a new project.

Hopefully this won’t be my last post here…

Anyway, have a nice day in the dungeon, you scoundrels!
