Purrfect Shot continues to evolve in its design. While the core pillars and mechanics of the game are mostly set in stone, the team is finding that the specific details of implementation are very difficult to pin down. When individual group members work on features and ideas, they are doing so with their own vision in mind. This vision however does not always align with the creative direction of the game, and consequently there has been a lot of back and forth on various points of design.
Level design in particular has faced many iterations. Our goal has been to create an interesting world to explore with diverse biomes and points of interest for the player to explore. Everything from a centralized mountain with caves, to a cat head-shaped island, to the idea of a catnip-smoking stoner cat with a cool garden has been explored. As with other design aspects discussed in previous devlogs, it is important to us that we never regress to design-by-committee. Though this is still being worked on, the art department has settled on a final look and feel for the island— a semi-realistic look in a temperate climate.
Beyond these uncertainties, work on Alpha-ready assets continues. The design of the cats progresses very well, and almost all assets needed for Alpha are either complete or in-development with an early version integrated into the game.
