Devlog 1 - February 2025

A downloadable game for Windows, macOS, and Linux

Hi! A few of you might have been wondering about how development's marching along and where I've been! Well, let's get the bad news out of the way first: these past 3 months have been incredibly busy for me. I had to work on school assignments on December (which included a little update for Magical Girl Clash) and los muchachos from Remulla Games and I got back to work on our current project and on a little jam game which you can check out here! (it's only in Spanish, sorry). Couple that with a bunch of social gatherings (like 50% of my circle celebrates their birthday on February somehow), classes, and a few other projects running in the back and basically I had a really packed schedule.

But I'm managing. I'm working on Lanú slowly but surely in my free time. Chapter 2 is mostly done! It's taken a few months of polishing and rewriting but it's practically finished. Only things missing are the translation and a general polish pass when the VN's finished. But the chapter's been shaping up over these past few weeks. I've got new CGs, new music and it ended up being as lengthy as Chapter 1. I also drew a few more expressions for the characters, and added a bit more of visual flair to Chapter 1's horror scene!

I'm taking the chance now that Chapter 2 is done to rework how I go about developing Lanú. I was planning on doing it chapter by chapter where I would finish absolutely everything about a chapter before I moved onto the next but I realize now that probably isn't the best idea.  It made me feel at times like I was doing very little progress because I was wracking my head over touching up the same scenes over and over. And to be honest, Lanú kind of ballooned in scope. Remember that the game page claims that the full story will be around 25k~ words? Well, not anymore. It'll probably be around 35 to 40k. If I don't somehow end up undershooting the wordcount again, I mean. I really don't want to keep everyone waiting a year or more until I finish so I want to speed up the development somehow. Maybe the full game will feature a few less CGs than I planned and some small scenes will get cut, but I'll see how I'm doing by the middle of the year. So my current plan is to work on the rough draft for the entire novel, along with making some music and backgrounds, and then I'll get around to polishing and adding art. I'll also leave the translation until the script is done, so I'll probably be sharing screenshots in Spanish for some time. Development updates will probably be bimonthly so the updates can be a bit juicier.

I'll also share a few screenshots and music and other updates over on Bluesky! And maybe Tumblr, who knows. I'm not sure if I'll keep posting updates on Twitter, since, you know. It kind of became a hellscape. But I'll keep everyone posted! I'll get to work on Chapter 3 in March, which is (I hope) shorter than Chapter 2, so hopefully development will be smoother from now on.
