This week focused on preparing for the upcoming level demo, resolving technical bugs, and implementing crucial mechanics.
Timeline
- February 8: Held a team meeting to assign tasks for the level demo.
- February 10: Gravity bug resolved
- February 12: Dog front-half grabbing mechanic implemented and tested.
- February 13: Attic tasks (e.g. move rug, scatter crates, break vase) scripted and placed in the level.
Progress & Development
- Gravity Bug Fix: Fixed the issue with the cat model falling too slowly.
- Dog Grabbing Mechanic: Implemented front half object interaction (e.g. dragging objects).
- Attic Tasks: Designed and placed 3 tasks in the attic
- Soundtrack: Created looping soundtrack for the game
- Art Progress: Properly rigged cat models, and designed dog model
Challenges
- Grabbing Mechanic : Grab mechanic had issues between the dog’s grabbing animation and the grabbed object's physics
- Post-Gravity Fix Bugs: Minor collisions issues emerged with pet movement after fixing gravity bug,
Next Steps
- Polish Attic Demo: Refine task pacing and set up floating text for controls overview.
- Begin Living Room Level: Block out geometry and place key interactable elements.
- Implement Tail Mechanics: Develop tail animations and physics for expressive movement and object interaction (e.g., swatting items).
- Sound Design: Integrate sound effects into the attic level.
- Frankenpet Animation: Implement procedural animations for movement and mechanics like grabbing and climbing.
