020225 Blobun Build (Demo Nearly Complete)

Blobun
A downloadable game for Windows and Linux

🦊Howdy! Coming at you today with a new update to Blobun. The demo is almost complete! If all goes well, we'll be posting it in a few days, but before then, we need your help! Here's what you can do:

  • If you want a demo beta key on Steam, join our Discord chat and then go to "Channels and Roles"  and get yourself the Blobun Demo Test role. Further instructions are in the "blobun-demo-test" channel you'll now have access to, in the pinned message. Once the story art is in and the final build is made, we'll offer more general pre-release access to the demo, but it's not quite ready for that yet.
  • If you have the Early Access version of Blobun, you can check out the demo worldpak here. Instructions for how to put it into the game are also featured on our forum.

The only thing missing in the demo is finalized artwork for the intro cutscene, as well as achievement graphics for Steam. There's plenty more we still have to do, but that's for the full version only.

Sale + Steam Keys

Speaking of, if you missed our last post about it, Steam keys are now available to Itch customers! If you bought it on Itch, got it through Patreon, or got a key directly from us, you can get a key. The game is also on sale if you want to help fund the rest of the game.

Anyways, as always, here are the patch notes:

===== NEW =====

  • New puzzles have been added. Good luck!
  • We've started adding themeing to World 8 (the final world.)
  • The Suggrandis Forest now has proper music and environmental sounds.
  • The game now has an intro sequence! To see it, either start a new game from the World Select screen, or you can go find it in the "Extras" menu on the title screen.
  • (Note: The intro sequence isn't finished yet, so there's still placeholder art.)
  • A new song has been added for when you solve a puzzle.
  • A new setting has been added which allows you to replace the background of puzzles with a solid color.
  • Mt. Bophades now has proper ambient sounds, as well as a couple other areas.
  • You can now change the Analog Deadzone for connected gamepads. Currently, this affects all connected gamepads.
  • A toggle has been added to remove the lesbian content from the game, if that's something you want to do.
  • The World Select screen now has proper music (the melody may sound familiar to some of you.)
  • A sound has been added for going in and out of floor portals.
  • Sounds and effects have been added for falling into lava and water.
  • [Editor] You can now select the Crystaline stage themeing (though it's not completely implemented yet.)

===== IMPROVED =====

  • The remaining placeholder names on puzzles have been replaced with proper names.
  • All floating puzzle elements now have little particles when they haven't been touched yet.
  • Slight improvements to the way the game shows defaults.
  • Modified the graphics of the floor zappers to make it clearer what order they go in, and also to make each tile's symbols unique.
  • Modified the graphics of the floor portals to improve contrast and shape clarity.
  • Icons have been added to many of the menus.
  • Menu items which open a submenu to pick from a list of options now indicate which one is currently selected.
  • Improved the animation for when a drawn movement path gets reset for some reason.
  • Enemy spikes will now look at the cursor you use to draw movement paths with.
  • If you don't do anything for a while, enemy spikes will now get bored and start looking around.
  • The Input Options menu will now show all devices which are currently plugged in. There's no input remapping yet, but you can at least see what the game is picking up, in case you have problems.
  • The Save Slot Select menu will now tell you if a save slot is empty or not.
  • When you enter a puzzle, the World Name is now shown by the Puzzle Name.
  • Input prompts have been added to the sliders in menus.
  • The time on the World Select screen now indicates if you have all the dev times in all worlds in that worldpak or not.
  • Added input direction priority reversal. If you're holding right on the keyboard, and press left, you'll start going left. Then, while holding left, you can press right to go right.
  • Made improvements to the controls when using the analog stick.

===== CHANGED =====

  • Special stages now say "Special" on the pause screen and stage introduction.
  • Updated icons to be more consistent (Most particularly the ones for regular times vs dev times.)
  • Changed some icons to be SDF font glyphs instead of sprites. This shouldn't affect anything.
  • The path draw cursor will no longer show if you move your mouse to the edge of the game window, or it's otherwise not over the game window. (If you click on the very edge of the game window though, it'll still count.)

===== BUG FIXES =====

  • Fixed where the timer countdown sound would play when the timer wasn't visible, and wouldn't play when it was visible, depending on your settings.
  • Fixed a bug where the puzzle state progression was inconsistent between gamepad and mouse controls when sliding on ice.
  • Fixed a bug where, in an extremely specific setup, the floor zappers could crash the game due to an uninitialized variable.
  • Floor zappers will now remain lit for the entire time you're sliding around on ice/conveyers/etc to let you know they'll hurt you.
  • The game will now properly remember when you want serious fonts between playthroughs. Playtime is over.
  • Fixed an animation issue that occurred in the very specific scenario of selecting a save slot from the World Select screen for a save file that hadn't been played yet.
  • Fixed the game being a little too aggressive about saving configuration data with certain menus/options.
  • Fixed a depth sorting issue with input prompts in menus.
  • Fixed the game showing "Uncharted Territory" on stages you've unlocked and played while it was still loading the menu.
  • Fixed a bug where the game would let you hover and click stages with the mouse on the Stage Select screen before the transition was done.
  • Holding the mouse to draw a path where the first tile would be impossible for Stephanie to cross will no longer make a path and then destroy it every frame.
  • Fixed some pathfinding bugs by checking blocks directly adjacent to Stephanie to see if she can move through them when calculating the path. This allows some pathfinding to work that previously didn't.
  • Fixed an issue where the drawn path would be incorrectly depth sorted on the top row of puzzle elements.
  • Fixed depth sorting issues with lasers on the Stage Select screen.
  • Floor zappers will no longer flash all kinds of different colors when pushing up against a warehouse box that's stuck against a wall.
  • Fixed a bug where camera boundaries would show up if there was an electric wire nearby to the camera boundary edge (despite you not being able to move on it.)
  • [Editor] Fixed bugs where right click would make Stephanie undo, and middle click would open the menu, while the editor was open (conflicting with using the editor.)
  • [Editor] Fixed a bug where the pathfinding grid for Stephanie moving around the playfield wouldn't be updated when editing the puzzle layout.

===== KNOWN BUGS =====

  • Once in a while, undoing the very first step of the puzzle doesn't affect some puzzle elements, but we're not able to reliably reproduce it. If you figure out a way, let us know, as this causes the puzzle to be desynced!
  • There's still some quirks with the menus and whatnot when it comes to mouse controls. There's some we know about (like how scrolling is broken on long menus,) but feel free to reach out anyways!

Credits

Patrons past and present, this is your last opportunity to make sure that your name is right in the game. Check our list here and confirm with us if your name is correct or not on any platform we're on. We'll be doing one more build to add the final story assets and to fix bugs found with this build (there's always something) but after that, it'll be set in stone.
