Devlog #7 - The Home Stretch + A Big Announcement

One Thousand Acts of Decency
A downloadable visual novel for Windows, macOS, and Linux

Hello, everybody! This is going to be the final Devlog before I launch Case 3, and I have some really cool stuff to share! Not only will I give the final round of information on the case, but I also have a very special announcement about the way you'll play One Thousand Acts of Decency! I hope you're as excited as I am!

Case Three is Almost Complete

Case 3 is just over the horizon, and I couldn't be happier. With all the writing and nearly all of the art assets complete, everything is coming together in a manner I'm really proud of. Currently, all that remains to be worked on is the lattermost stretch of the final debate and epilogue. With the momentum from completing investigation 3 and the first portion of the debate, I see this being smooth sailing for me!

After the functionality is done (which will be very soon,) the remainder of the time before the release will be dedicated to further playtesting it in painstaking detail, just to make sure absolutely nothing slips through the cracks. Additionally, that's gonna be the time when I work on polishing art assets, writing, or just making little tweaks to help the game run, look, or play better. With the functionality of the game out of the way, that'll also be my opportunity to put together a trailer and key art to use for the big release, so I hope you look forward to that, too!

The Upcoming Release

So, when does this come out? I don't have an exact day, but it will definitely be this month, December of 2024. That should give me more than enough to get done absolutely everything I want to complete in the case and have it in a state to release. As usual, that drop will be announced here, on my Twitter, and in my Discord server (both are linked below.) If you want to know precisely when Case 3 releases, I'd encourage you to follow me on any of those platforms so you don't miss a beat.

The third case isn't the only thing releasing this month, however. Dropping simultaneously with the third case, I'm proud to debut...

One Thousand Acts of Decency for Android!

That's right! One Thousand Acts of Decency is getting a mobile port. This port will contain all the same content as the PC releases (so all three of the cases,) all packaged in a manner that makes it playable on a touchscreen. Now, you can take One Thousand Acts of Decency anywhere, in case you want your coworkers seeing you interrogate a crewmate-obsessed mongoose during your lunch break.

This port was very challenging to create, but thankfully, it's basically finished barring some more stress testing. As you might know, phones have a wide variety of different aspect ratios- they may all roughly be the same proportions, but the exact relation between height and width can vary from model to model. Unlike the PC port where I can instruct the game to run in a 16:9 aspect ratio, it's a lot less straightforward to do that on a mobile device what I ultimately decided on was to partition off the left portion of the screen to use for buttons that would be very small on the PC port (saving, loading, etc,) which also served to get the main section of the screen a lot closer to the intended aspect ratio. That being said, I did need to reconfigure basically every UI element to make sure it could work at a non-16:9 ratio. For some, like the options menu and title screen, they were very heavily overhauled for the mobile builds.

Closing Thoughts

There's not much more to say, aside from I hope you all enjoy Case 3 when it releases this month (and the mobile build too, if that's your thing.) Working on this has been immensely rewarding and I can't wait to share the fruits of my labor.

That's all for now- I'll mangle ya later, everyone!
