Hi!
I was lucky enough to be invited to show 'Image Archaeology: A Pictish Stone' at Burning Beaver in the Dongdaemun Design Plaza in Seoul a week or two ago. It was in the experimental section organized by Out Of Index, an experimental game festival in Seoul.
I just wanted to share a bit about how it went and some photos from the event.
For the exhibition, I prepared a paper version of the game that hid the images in overlapping colours, and UV sensitive ink. I prepared 3 magnifying glasses with coloured film taped to them and a UV torch that were used to find them. I wasn't expecting a lot of interest in the game, it's a pretty experimental game with a fairly niche subject matter. However it was much more popular than I expected! There was a constant queue of people waiting to try the game and it was even featured in an article on a popular Korean game news site. Here's another article featuring the game too!
I think it was mainly the physicality of getting to interact with the objects that appealed to people. I found that people doing it in pairs usually worked best, as they could discuss stuff and find stuff together and one person could be a dedicated answer writer. Some people said it reminded them of a room escape game. I did have to do a lot of talking to guide people on what to do, but overall it went well!
Here are some pictures:
Thanks!
