#5 - Level 2

Lost In Space
A downloadable game for Windows, macOS, and Linux

Introduction:

The adventure continues and if you've managed to reach this level, it almost certainly means you have successfully completed the first level of our game and you're now ready for new challenges. In this level I felt like the style should be similar to the previous one and luckily we had the needed resources for that, so instead of a lava floor, there's now a toxic water floor that the player must avoid. In this level I felt like there would be a big benefit if we used the three types of enemies we have currently developed, to try and make some of the parts more challenging. I also enjoyed toying with new platform scripts, especially platforms with vertical movements as I thought it'd fit the theme of the level.

Storyline:

Our hero has been through a lot during his yet short stay on the planet, but his mind continues focused on his objective. He must recover the pearls, kickstart his spaceship and avoid being lost in space forever.

The toxic wastes the hero encounters on the second level are certainly a terrorizing view at first, with acidic waters capable of melting steel, and enemies in unexpected locations, but he is not one to give up and to carry on with his journey he needs to be swift as a greyhound, tough as leather and hard as steel.

Platforms:

- Sinking Platform

This platform is just about the only part that carried from the previous level, and even though it isn't fitting the jumping theme I wanted for the level, I believe it fits as it's not a regular platform and it also allows for some diversity.

- Jumping Platform(w/ enemy)

This platform jumps up and down yet it's not very fast, this is only the second level and since we already include a challenging enemy in this platform, we didn't want to overly complicate things. More information on the enemy can be consulted at #2.1 .

- Jumping Towers

Following the general theme of the level, these towers also move up and down and carry both collectables and enemies. I got some inspiration for this part from Mario.

- Crushing Platforms

This part might be the most challenging part for some players in this level as some of the platforms are always trying to block the way of our hero, and along with that there's a Turret at the start and finish of the sequence.
