Iโm beyond excited to share that Fantasma, one of my earliest game creations from 2004, has been reborn and is now fully playable directly in your browser! No more downloads or installations—you can jump in and start playing right away, anytime, anywhere! ๐ฎ (except mobiles... for now).
Fantasma is more challenging and exciting than ever! I've introduced endless gameplay, so once you've mastered the first 16 levels, youโll loop back to level 1 with increased difficulty each time. This new twist offers limitless fun and keeps you pushing your limits to achieve the highest score possible. And the best part? Your score now competes on a global leaderboard, so every point you earn places you against players from around the world!
While Iโve worked hard to stay true to the essence of the original, Fantasma has received some well-deserved updates and enhancements:
Plus, Iโve added under-the-hood improvements to make everything run more efficiently, ensuring a smoother and more enjoyable experience.
Fantasma holds a special place in my heart, as itโs my second-ever game project, crafted during my spare time while studying in university. Initially built in Game Maker 5, Fantasma was packaged as a Windows EXE with an installer, and I even had to ensure all the necessary files were in place for players to enjoy it.
A few years later, disaster struck when I lost almost everything from my hard drive, including the gameโs files and source code. Luckily, the installer survived, so I held onto a small piece of Fantasma—but the original code seemed lost forever.
That is, until recently when I stumbled upon an unassuming zip file buried among thousands of recovery files. Inside was the long-lost source code! Though not quite complete, it was enough to reignite my dream of giving Fantasma a fresh life.
Bringing Fantasma back was like collaborating with my younger self. It was fascinating to revisit my early work and see just how much Iโve grown as a developer. I took what I had, carefully upgraded it to Game Maker Studio 1.4, then finally to Game Maker Studio 2. Now, with everything safely stored on GitHub, Fantasma is in a place where I can continue to improve and share it for many years to come.
The original Windows version is still available on itch.io for a small price, and any purchase or donation will go toward Fantasma's ongoing development and other future projects. But the remastered version remains free to play, right in your browser, for everyone to enjoy!
This is only the beginning! Iโll be keeping an eye on feedback and possibly adding more updates and tweaks in the near future. So, keep playing, keep climbing that leaderboard, and stay tuned!
Ready to see how high you can go? Play Fantasma now and show the world what youโre made of! ๐
