Demo version 1.14: The Disappointing, But Necessary Update
Posted November 05, 2024 by Yal
Why is This Update Disappointing?
I was originally planning to wait until next weekend to make the next update - sticking with that "once every 2 weeks" plan - but I discovered a game-crashing bug that's WAY too easy to trigger so I just had to get a hotfix available ASAP.
Disappointments of this update includes:
Two Unfinished Levels
These both kinda just end in dead ends with no Crystal Burgers to collect but you could maybe have some fun in them nonetheless?
Super Accessory Vendor Salhazaar pops in
There was a massive deficit in things to actually spend your Carrot Coins on; Salhazaar's shop seeks to remedy this with a massive selection of new accessories. His selection includes the strongest mobility, melee and spellcasting accessories in the game, but of course they're priced accordingly.
Full List of Disappointments
- Fixed the game crashing when hovering over a 'restores both HP and Magic Juice' food item (e.g. Baked Beans) caused by a bug in the healing preview code .
- Healing previews now use the text 'MAX' if they heal you to max instead of showing you the underlying humonguous numbers.
- A bunch of big changes for Cursed King since it´s the first boss you fight and it doesn´t really give the optimal first impression...
- Cursed king now has a set attack pattern (the same way Eugene has) and has small jumps instead of only big jumps, to avoid the fight devolving into him standing still throwing knives all the time.
- The lightning is now a targeted laser that causes an explosion, and he has an alternate melee attack and smaller jumps, plus a rapidfire weaker version of the laser.
- Reduced hitbox size so you won't take contact damage from his foot when he charges up a jump.
- Fixed a bug where enemies immune to the knockback state (mostly bosses) would still have their speeds overridden by player projectile knockback, which especially was bad for interrupting Cursed King´s jumps in weird ways.
- Added Super Accessory Vendor Salhazaar to Castle Town, who sells all the best accessories (and duplicates of any you might've missed in previous areas too).
- Right now buying every accessory in the game would take 257 carrotcoins, about twice as many than exists in the game currently.
- As part of Salhazaar's update, all the newly added accessories from the previous update are now functional.
- Potentially FINALLY fixed the bug where you can get stuck in terrain randomly when engaging Burger Flip in tight spaces. Turns out the code that moves you out of the way used the player's SPRITE height and not HITBOX height, so it would always overcompensate and being in certain animations could get you more than double the intended distance.
- Began work on a new storyline, Cheester the Cheese Thief! He'll take you through both Castle Town and Cowloon on his way to the Big Cheese...
- Trick or Threat escape timer is now back at 3.5 minutes until further notice.
- Fixed regular Nexus music playing when exiting Trick or Threat instead of Castle Town music.
- Door to Trick or Threat now remembers if you've unlocked it, it stays open permanently.
- Conclusion to the 'Flood Frie's bathroom' arc. Maurice and Lucia now have been promoted to real characters.
- You now can't flood Frie's bathroom if she's dead or your friend.
- New small secret in Bread Ruins Main.
- Fixed some outdated information in flavor text.
- Queen of Redundancy's dialogue absolutely sucked so I've written up a completely new backstory for her (involving a secret area for context).
Stay flippin', folks! I hope to have some levels actually DONE soon! :)
