Second Update - Better Arcade
I thought I’d be done for a while, but the game still didn’t feel fun. It’s not great yet, but it’s a step forward - so here’s a new changes.
HIGHLIGHTS:
- Game over screen & best score system
- Things look nicer
- New map & enemy
- Fixed collisions / dash
Full details:
- Fading projectiles no longer collide with the player.
- Huckerworms are now also known as “gummy worms.” Their bodies have become translucent, squishy gel which comes in all colors.
- A couple new particle effects give new life (and death effect) to these refined worms.
- Worms have collisions until dashed through.
- There is now a game over screen and a new score you can keep. How high can you go?
- Doors have been added for arcade progression.
- Missions have been added.
- Y sorting has finally and unbelievably been fixed!
- Credits have been added to the menu.
- Lights have been added.
- Dashing no longer costs food, the chicken has energy.
- A new enemy is added, called “lotus.”
- The chicken ball, “Chiki,” now has a fresh new look with tweaked animations.
- Trying a new style for arcade backgrounds and some new sounds.
- 0.5% chance for a silly game title.
- Added “End run” button in upgrade menu so you can quit early.
- Version number now has a suffix, because honestly, this game is in beta compared to my vision.
- Main menu popups look nicer.
- 7 additional arcade loops (BGM).
- 1 new arcade level + tutorial level.
- Volume can now be controlled from the settings, and doesn’t blast your ears to space on every startup! Thanks to The Shaggy Dev @YT for his tutorial on a simpler, more efficient volume system.
Bug fixes:
- Dashing through enemies will now always work. Previously, beginning a dash inside an enemy hitbox would not do anything. This is no longer the case.
- Worms will always explode on death.
- Pause menu now blocks mouse input behind it.
- Main menu no longer crashes when you press space.
- The game doesn’t tickle your eardrums on the main menu anymore with the new config version.
That should be all. Thanks for playing!
Oh, and also, I’m testing a Linux build as well. I do not own a Linux machine nor have I ever used one. So if the game doesn’t launch, please comment and let me know.
