Today marks the release of Simple Fantasy RPG! It makes me happy to finally have this finished and out in the public. It took me a long 20 days to complete these books, but SFRPG is complete at last. I do recognize that this system is most likely flawed and unbalanced, it is mostly a mashup of some of my preferred rules. That's why I hope you, random stranger that came upon this project, would consider downloading it (no money required, but appreciated if you decide to return to this page), give it a test run, and provide feedback as to what could be improved.
At this point, you are probably wondering, "why would you make your own system if there are plenty of systems that do fantasy well?" I have seen plenty of free options that are all amazing, Basic Fantasy and Cairn coming first to mind, but they don't suit my (very specific) needs. I've recently become unemployed, which led to me jumping into solo roleplaying, but due to my status, I want to do this hobby on a budget. Therefore, all my rule books and tables are on PDFs. I also have very little desk space, so what analog material I do have needs to fit within that tight space. I tried my first solo session earlier this month and it was extremely difficult, having to constantly scroll through pages and pages to find a specific rule and popping in and out of browser pages to view random tables and my character sheet. The rules, also, for the free game systems I could find just didn't suit the type of roleplay I wanted to do.
So I made Simple Fantasy RPG, and released it here in the hopes that others can provide feedback. I will be using it in my solo roleplay journey, maybe it can add something in yours.
That's all well and good, but what will be the future of this project? Of course, I will be using this system, and when I notice any oddities in the rules, or something that should be added or changed, I will update the document whenever that comes up. I also plan to expand on this project and create guides for more general roleplay (or to be more clear, guides that can be used alongside other systems, not just SFRPG).
These guides would include:
There will be more to come, so I hope you stick around!
