#update 1
Introducing Alizia's Project! Our first project as students for a modest Jam that was organized here in Andalusia. Unfortunately we were unable to submit on time by about five minutes. However, that didn't stop us from releasing the project on Itch.io to be proud of our work.
With only 48 hours of Jam (which was actually between 10-15 hours). We decided to create a project based on Alice in Wonderland. The theme being "Small World" made us think it would be an ideal story for this Jam.
I always wanted to create a retelling about Alice. I'm Alice's American Mcgee and Lies of P big fan, and I thought that I could create a new retelling about Alice with my team.
This is how it was born Alizia's Project. A little project to this Jam which It can become a big fantasy project.
For this practice project we've chosen free assets to edit. With four persons in team, two of us were dedicated to programming, and two others to creating assets and editing those downloaded.
We had based in classic Zelda released to Gameboy and SNES like Link's Awakening, Oracle of Ages/Seasons... Top-Down View with a simple combat adventure. And of course, dungeons.
By the time we realized it was too late. We had chosen something quite ambitious for ourselves for a 48 hour jam, being our first time. But we're glad of the result.
We've learned a lot at about Unity, game engine that we was using to that Jam. It's a engine with a learning curve something difficult, but when you understand the principle, everything seems so much easy.
One of the most interesting things that I learned personally was the camera. Being able to make a camera that transitioned like those classic Zeldas. When I understood it and achieved it, I felt very accomplished.
Some of my teammates also learned a lot about Unity, as it was their first time using the engine. One of the funniest comments I heard from them was, "For me, it’s been like the Matrix—just two days, and I already know kung-fu."
I hope to use this project as a way to create a new fantasy world and continue improving as a game developer. I hope you enjoy the future updates! See ya!
