Happy Spooktober! Version 0.9.2 is Live!
Happy Spooktober, Duelists! If you've followed us for a long time, you know that it's an annual tradition for us to add a small amount of spooky content every October, and this year is no different!
For Spooktober 2024, we've introduced a whopping 4 new costumes (including a special crossover with GeraScopia!), 3 new Missions, and □□□□□□□□□□□! We've also made some changes to existing Missions, as well as added some new features to Arcade Mode to let you spice up your runs!
Here are the full patch notes:
Interface
- Health bar portraits no longer reflect the alt colour being used, with some special exceptions (i.e. the Callowtron colour for ExploJudo Callowman, the EX1 colour for Boxer Baron, etc.).
- The reason for this change came down to two factors:
- It is surprisingly time-consuming to create renders for each individual alternate colour of every costume, especially given we had to do this twice per costume (once for the character select screen renders, and again for the health bar portraits). Eliminating one of these sets will save us a lot of time in the long run
- Having such an excess of these renders in the files has a non-negligible impact on the file size, so cutting down on them helps reduce that burden, if only by a small amount
- Note that the Character Select Screen renders will still have alternate colour variations, so that you can see the colour you’re selecting in detail
Miscellaneous
- Updated the Minigames and Boss Fights menus to use TextMeshPro, making the text appear much cleaner
Mission Mode
- Added a Tips system to Mission Mode, to help players learn the strategies needed to clear each Mission
- Upon failing a Mission, you will now have the option to reveal a tip for the Mission. These tips are meant to inform the player about required mechanics, provide helpful strategies, and make the exact objectives of certain Missions more clear. Boss Missions in particular have two tips each, with the second one becoming available after failing twice in a row
- This system is meant to allow everyone to take Mission Mode at their own pace. The tips are there for people struggling to understand the mechanics and intended strategies, but if you prefer to figure out each Mission on your own, you don’t have to reveal the tips at all!
- Added new Missions:
- Touch of Death 2 (Page 4)
- A Graveyard Smash (Page 4)
- The Amulet (Page 3)
- Changes for specific Missions:
- Buff Boi Bodyguard
- This Mission has received a drastic rework: Rather than just fighting a series of thugs, you now have to protect Matthew as the thugs try to attack him!
- Number of enemies increased from 4 to 5
- Removed the Buff Boi plushes that would spawn on the stage
- Moved the Mission back to page 3, swapping it with Ultra Crash Siblings
- Giant Battle
- The opponent of the Mission is now Cyclops Baron, who has permanent (albeit weak) Tough Armour
- Clearing this Mission now unlocks the Cyclops Baron costume (NOTE: this does not apply retroactively. If you had already beaten the Mission, you will need to beat it again to unlock the costume)
- Tumbleweed Takeover
- Fixed an issue where tumbleweeds would continue spawning during Super cinematics
Arcade Mode
- Added custom rulesets for Arcade Mode, allowing you to spice up your runs in new ways!
- Number of Rounds - Changes the number of rounds required to win a match. Set to 2 by default, but can also be set to best of 1
- Theme - Changes the pool of available opponents, costumes, and stages to reflect a specific theme. The currently available themes are:
- Default
- A typical Arcade Mode run
- Duels of Fortune
- A canon-friendly experience. Only characters and locations that are planned to be part of Story Mode will appear
- Multiversal Tournament
- A completely non-canon-friendly experience! Only characters and locations from other dimensions will appear
- Frightening Fray
- A spooky experience! All stages will be dark and ominous, and your opponents will always be using spooky or Halloween-themed costumes
- Special Guests
- The least Duels of Fortune that Duels of Fortune can get! Only characters, stages, and costumes from other games will appear
- Toggling Stage Hazards for Arcade Mode no longer also toggles it for Versus mode, and vice-versa
- The game now remembers the last difficulty setting you chose for Arcade Mode, and will default to it on your next run
Minigames
- Added a new minigame: .̴̟̿̈̎͛̒͘͠ ̷̡̤̮̞̠̮̘̮͇̠̲̀͛̿̈́͘̚͜͝ͅ.̷̨̫͐̈́̈̏̏̿͝͠͝-̴̢͕̮̗̲̥̻͉͇̓̐̅̋͒̓͑ͅ.̸̢̗͓̗̃̈́̒̓̈́͑̕͜ ̶̡̨̢̖̟̮͓̭̠̱͎̰̫̍̀́͘͝͝.̶̛̳̖̥̆̀̈́-̷̨̢̡̧̹͕͎̇͆̽́͗̓́͘̕͜.̸̱̠̭̜̲̣̜͖̬̖̐͐͂́̃̈́̃ͅ ̶͈̲̜͉̙̱͇̻̋̍̓̽̽̚-̴̛̣́̈́̐̈́͗̄́́̕-̸͎̏̌͊̀̆̾̕͘͠-̶̢͖̤̺̤͔̜̣̘͎͊͒̍̆̓̑̈́̋̓͊́͝ ̷̤̜̳̦͓̥̖̗̥͔̬̞̏̂͝.̴̢̪̺͍̼͍̘͛̄̐̍̾͝ͅ-̵̹͙̘̭͔͈͂̓̇̑̎̇̐̎̚͘.̶͍̰̽́͑̽̎̀͋̔̒͊̀̚͝ ̸̤̟̙̓̓̅̃͛̔̎̕D̶̥̬͔̪͓̀͋̈́̆͝͝Ŏ̷̻͗̚͝ͅ ̴̧̢̛̟̼̣̻̦̭̖̻̹̿̊̓̂̂̌͘N̸̳͓͖͓̹̱͎͉̫͓̩̓̏Ǫ̴͚͍̣͙̹̣̬̭̟̥̥̘͐͋̋͆̐͑͑̌̍̓͝Ţ̶̨͖̜͎̯̅̄̎̔͊̏͆̾̃ ̴̙͍̿̾̇̉̃̅͌̄͂̕Ȩ̷͆͛̈N̵̢̡̨̛̲̺̋̿̽̈́̓̎Ţ̶̹͉̳̬̖̳͕̯̖͖͗͑̍̐̇͌͋̔͗̑̑̓Ę̸̛̛̪̏̌̂̿͂̀̽̈̇͘ͅR̵̼̩̪͇̠̱̙̮͇͖̦͊͋̓̉̃̅͂̄̉ͅ ̴̬̖͆̑͂́͌͊͆.̴̳͈͕͈̠̲̫̻́̓̇̇͗͑̋̎͛̚͜ ̴̟̽̀̂̍̋̌́͐̈́̾͂͘̚.̷̨̢̰̹̠̪̩̗̞͕͖̉̔̈́͐͌͒̕̚̚ͅ-̴̧͎̦̻̹͓̩̜̺̫̤̗̯̉́̀̏̊̌̚.̴̤̂̆̑̐͗͛̿̌͗͘͠͠ ̶̳̻̲̮͔̟͚͈̏͋̒̈̈́̚̕ͅ.̶̨͔̻̭̞͎̪̲͇̎̎̽̀͑͂̍̈́̒̔́̓̕-̶̡̛̦̙̝̮̯̯̦̞̓̈́̐̊̇̉͆.̵̢̡̛̫̩̩̗̮̥͖̣̺̩͑̔̔͗͌͒̊̅́͜ ̷̧̢̨̼̫̠̯̼͖̥͉́̆̎̍̀-̶̢̛̬͈͖͂͑͜-̷̧̦̖͇̲̭͙̞̖̩͑́̀͂͑̆͒ͅ-̵͚̦̥̙̤̻̬̓̉̈́̔͐͑̔͝͝ ̸̨͖̖͚̭͘ͅ.̸͖͕̞̝̗͉̘̺̘́̊̿̀̕͜ͅ-̶͔̏̀̆̉̑͆.̴̞̟͍͍͙̝̣̟̈́̊̓̈͜
