Hi! I am Snow140 and I am developing Merge Tiles, a mobile puzzle game. Today, I am going to go back a bit. In previous devlogs, I talked about how the game was constructed and why I was switching it to the Godot Engine. You can check them here. Now, I will discuss what makes a good puzzle and why I chose the one I did.
To start, what attributes make a puzzle good? I did some research, and the best attributes for Mobile puzzles are:
If you haven’t played the game, Merge Tiles is a game where you must merge three tiles of the same color in order to create a new color. Firstly, it is simple with not much extra layers. Next, it doesn’t have any difficult mechanics, but a way to gain strategy and master the game. Lastly, the difficult curve. Merge Tiles’ difficulty curve lies within its amount for many different colors. When you discover many colors, the board may become cluttered and you may run out of moves. Currently, the Demo doesn’t have winning or losing, so you will just have to manually check for moves, but there is a difficulty curve all the same.
