Switchblade (Demo)
A downloadable game for Windows

Hello hello, new demo update. The next demo update will be the final release in preparation for the Steam release. Once again, lots and lots of changes...

Changelog is as follows:

  • Finalised menu
  • Menu is now visually complete, with lots of new options:
    • Visual - Pixel scaling, shader toggling, dynamic letterbox colour, cursor style (more on that below), subtle level up notifiers, and boss warning style
    • Audio is the same...
    • Controls - Control style (more on that below), controller deadzone, thumbstick thrust/deadzone, mouse thrust/deadzone, keyboard, gamepad and mouse rebindings
    • Accessibility - Direction indicator for the ship, white flash intensity/toggling
    • New run info screen, where you can select a map. None of the maps are final, but are there just for options. Most of them exist in the challenge modes too
  • New control styles:
    • The game can now be played with the mouse and gamepad thumbstick for thrusting, leaving just two buttons for boosting and shooting. Should be much more fun to play this way
  • Enemy changes:
    • Added 2 new enemies, redirector and teleporter. Only redirector is in the game atm, in one of the challenges (enemies are now fully locked in and won't change)
    • Shielder has been remade to be more intuitive
    • Drone now has new animations, and visually is more intuitive
    • Orbiter is now a boost-kill only enemy
    • Some enemies have visual changes
  • Readability changes:
    • All effects have been remade by hand rather than using LOVE's particle systems, they look a lot nicer!
    • Depth sorting has been added
    • "Circles" of the same enemy type (exploders, heaters and shielders) now meld together, and exploders/heaters have patterns. Shielders cancel out of the effects of both if you stand inside of them
  • Challenges:
    • Added 8 challenges. Not final at all and not polished, just a taster of what's to come
    • Challenges now record progress, and require at least a C rank to progress onto the next challenge. They save your stats in each category so you can aim for S ranks if you want
    • Readded Ocellatus as challenge 5
  • Misc:
    • Remade gameover/victory menu as a single results menu
    • Lots of minor polish/balance changes
    • Probably other things I'm forgetting
