Much Polish & Some Fixes

KlSS
A downloadable game for Windows, macOS, and Linux

Small clarification about the title first. Lowercase: "klss". Uppercase: "KLSS". Official name: "KlSS". Yup, that's a lowercase "L" surrounded by uppercase characters. Key, love, Sword, Shield. You can pronounce it either "kiss" or "kloss". I alternate between the two myself so my friends stay confused about its pronunciation.

What's new in this version?

Fixes

  • The game would crash when launched offline. Now it doesn't.
  • A fix or two were made to the level editor. The level editor is my favorite part of the game, you should try it!

Improvements

  • In-game instructions. I wanted the game to explain itself without words, but found out its better to have good worded explanations than poor "mute" explanations. Still, I managed to make each instruction fit in exactly 16 characters.
  • Added level navigation menu. You can easily go back and forth or reach the weekly level.
  • Lerp! Character movements are more fluid. The character still moves horizontally and vertically behind the scene though (this won't change). The goal is to increase the player's feel of control as well as visual continuity.
  • Level saving feedback in the editor. The icon is visible only when something changed. When you save, an audio cue plays.
  • Item grabbing feedback, both audio and visual. I really like the idea I came up with for the technical design of the visual feedback. Might make a short standalone post about it.
