Major Updates/ New Sheets!

Solo Gaming Sheets
A downloadable game

Hello all you solo players! Today I have uploaded the newest sheets! I have included a document, but will copy the text here for my comments on this development! Needless to say, I am very excited and think this is the best version of these sheets I can produce. I hope you agree and continue to enjoy them. Good game to you.

The “Solo Sheets” have been in development, off and on, for some time now. I have seen quite a few gratifying comments about their usefulness and accessibility, and yet, like many projects, their first iterations were as much an exploration as the play style they hopefully beget.

So why then this new “edition?”

•    Earlier versions were a scattershot of game-system application. I would hurriedly make one related to the current project, adapting stats and character sheets to play a certain game. Needless to say, this became annoying and difficult to track.

What does it do differently?

•    In truth, nothing really! I have however made a number of changes that enhance accessibility, geared it towards one system, changed numerous elements of text, and sharpened up appearance.

‡ Changed formatting to create more visual space for easier reading. Changed font sizes in some places to this goal as well.

‡ It now is statted to play Original D&D; White Box Fantastic Medieval Adventure Game specifically. This system is one I continue returning to, after all the many games I own. There are six stats, single saving throw, and dominated by the d6 for Hit Dice and damage.
‡ HD means roll and tally that many d6s to get the creature’s hit points. Where you see (+1) means adding 1 to the d6 roll.

‡ Some information is taken from Swords & Wizardry Complete, another streamlined, single save, clone of OD&D. Either of these books will gell nicely with the sheets, but even Old School Essentials will work! That game uses d8s though, so using those books, you may want to “tame” down everything to d6 per monsters. This lends better to small/solo party play anyways.

‡ I rewrote the Quest tables, no longer using the previous one. I added a light Solo Engine in its own section to create more depth. I have tweaked some of the tables, changed things, altered results. They are slightly minor changes, albeit things are better now.

I have numbered the hexes for easier tracking. I added a dot grid to the Dungeon Sheet for easier drawing. I revamped (pretty significantly) the Possible Bosses. They have “tactics” now!

So how do I play?

•    Well, I suggest rolling up 1 - 3 characters in just about any simple, pretty vanilla style fantasy rpg. I suggest White Box or Swords & Wizardry. Then consider these procedures:

1)    Roll a home hex in the middle of the map.

2)    Roll a Quest and its location. Travel there. Each time you enter a hex, roll the Explore Die, follow the prompts, and play it all out. Use the Solo Engine to answer questions, flesh out the world, describe the world to yourself, and continue to play. Have a great time mixing and matching up all the tables! They’re there to spark and prompt your adventures!

3)    It may seem awkward at first. I always tell people, treat it more like a board game at first. Get into the flow of procedures, then worry about role-playing your PCs. At some point, things usually begin melding together.

Remember, this is not a game rule set. This is a structure in which to play a game solitaire. Use your books, of all kinds, to have more variety in treasure, spells, monsters, etc. Feel free to swap out the Explore Die for the standard 1-in-6 encounters. Whatever works for you is what you should be doing!

All best,

Perplexing Ruins
