World 4 Finished & Two More Mini Games!

Suddenly Bird (Playdate)
A downloadable game

Since my last update, I've been on a roll, steadily making progress. I'm excited to share that World 4 levels are now complete, and I've also wrapped up two mini games!

World 4 Levels Finished

This world is coastal themed and takes some major inspirations from Oregon coastal towns. Each town always seems to have a fish, candy, and shell shops, so that's the direction I went with for the three "house" designs for this world.

World 4 also introduces the "Fish" enemy! This enemy comes in two varieties: Timer and proximity. The fish on a timer jumps at a set rate while the proximity fish only jumps when you get close enough. The two varieties give a nice blend between challenging and frustrating :).

x2 New Mini Games

Between working on assets for world 4 and the new fish enemy, I was able to create two additional mini games that I've had in the idea bucket for a while.

Hit The Target

In this mini game you tilt the Playdate left or right to position yourself above the poor old man you are about to poop on.

Match The Notes

In this mini game you match the 4 notes that are played to you (which is sometimes harder than you'd think in the middle of a level).

Bug/QoS Fixes

  • Fixed an issue where the timer didn't always pause between the platforming levels and mini games. This wasn't as big an issue in earlier worlds, but as levels get harder to complete, every second counts.
  • Fixed an issue where the character wouldn't jump if you pushed left/right+jump at exactly the same time. This became noticeable with the fish enemy since you are stopping and jumping constantly (vs just being at a full run most the time).

Future

With world 4 finished there are only two worlds left to go! The next world that I will be working on will be forest themed with another new enemy. I've also been posting short form content updates on TikTok and encourage you to give a follow if you use that platform (and thank you)!

If you have any ideas always open to input! Thank you for your time and interest!
