Hello Everyone!
Scammed:
When I was preparing to release the game on Steam, I reached out to an advertising agency who advised the project was too small for their attention, and to try to find a freelancer on Fiverr or something. So I did! They got me over 2000 wish list saves! I was blown away, but when I released the game on Steam... 0 sales. This is when I did some digging and found out that these wish list saves were fake and I had been scammed. Thankfully I was able to get my money back from Fiverr, but it put a huge damper on the release on Steam.
That being said the game has sold a few copies, but the being scammed part I found really disheartening and without clear direction of where to go to get some advertising done for the game, it has just sort of sit selling a handful of copies.
Demo Version
I have decided to make a demo version of the game and upload it to be played in browser here on Itch! I may be able to do it on the existing page, I may have to make a new page for it. I am not totally sure. But I will include a significant portion of the game in it so people can make an accurate decision on whether or not they want to purchase.
Price Decrease
So I decreased the price to 1 dollar on here, and will likely do so on Steam soon as well. With the summer sale going on and AAA games selling for cheaper than my game, it is not surprising to see why it is not selling. Even at half off it is the same price as some other far superior games.
I haven't gotten any feedback on bugs or issues so at the moment I have no patches planned out. Given this I've started to move on with other projects!
Next Project
Some of you know I am also a musician and I have turned my attention to releasing my band Curse Guard's EP. It is nearly done and will likely release sometime in September 2024.
Additionally I am working with an artist to turn AoTU: The Orphans into a graphic novel or novel with the occasional illustration put in, and will possibly go that direction with the rest of the series! To be honest I was more focused on the story than the actual gameplay aspects. I love the classic FF feel of the gameplay, and the stripped down simplicity of not having to worry about stat allocations or classes, but it came to my attention that, even though I don't really advertise the game as a RPG, the people who tried it are used to more in depth RPGs and were looking for that! (The implications of using a software called RPGMaker to make it lol). So I may also continue making the games, but I may continue the series in more of a written capacity.
I would have really loved it if the game had done better, and maybe it will with the demo version and price decrease. Time will tell.
