Echovania Launch

Echovania
A browser game made in HTML5

Echovania is finally available for everyone to play! Over the last month I have worked super hard for MetroivaniaJam24 so I hope you enjoy it! I chose the theme 'Echoes of the past' - reflected in the Faint Echoes power, Echo Strike power and narrative plot.


## v15

Final boss overhauled, now way more interesting to fight

Fixed healing being able to overheal you

Slightly nerfed basic attack swing time

Fixed being able to purchase from the trader multiple times by exiting the scene (reload or dying)

Fixed the trader only taking 10 gold instead of 100

Fixed the screen shake option not being applied properly

Fixed the shake option buttons showing in front of the fade to black

Fixed an issue where the healthbar would be the wrong size after upgrading

Music should now loop

Banners igniting and locked door torches igniting now have audio cues

Archer onhurt and ondeath sound effects added

Archer can no longer be 'hit' during it's death animation

Intro text tone should now more match the music

Roll now has a distinct sound effect to jumping

Used a nicer minor-powerup statue graphic

Added some optional spirits to find to keep on theme

Added more people to the credits

Miniboss can now only be encountered once, the door will be open if you resume a game where it was defeated

New archer enemy added in a few locations

Scaled UI to work in most resolutions (Optimised for 1920x1080, should work for 1280x1024 and 4k. Later 960x540)

swapped location of echo slash and heavy slash to make the 'themed' ability more likely to be found

Fixed spamming 'interact' on levers causing some platform animations to snap around

Fixed the extinguished candelabrums from shifting slightly when ignited

Fixed miniboss door lock shifting slightly during the animation

Fixed the player floating by a few pixels on the camera shake preview screen

Adjusted the 'emote' timing for the miniboss cutscene to feel more impactful

Fixed player 'emote's being flipped

Fixed an issue where being too far away from one lever meant you couldn't listen to another, softlocking the game

Game should now save your location and health when respawning, making the boss and miniboss less harsh

Fixed bug where the game wouldn't load

Fixed bug where player would try to 'resume' at a checkpoint in the boss room that didn't exist

Fixed being able to get stuck at the heavy attack powerup

Added new (kinda deadly) miniboss and library area

New wall slide / walljump powerup to find

Intro title sequence can now be skipped by pressing any key

You are now invulnerable for 1s after taking damage

You are now knocked back when taking damage

You can now heal 50% of your health by consuming your mana bar

Tutorial area now prompts you to learn to dodge roll & heal

Roll moved to shift

EchoSlash is now a secret ability

Slightly slowed the light attack and sped up the heavy attack

Echoes can now only be listened to if they are somewhat close by (You no longer re-trigger every single echo)

Box plank particles no longer show when it's not destroyed

Dying now slows time and fades out

New cursor

New hourglass effect so non-hearing players can understand the timed lever is timed

Faint Echoes (Ghosts) should now appear properly

New keyboard control prompts in the intro

Fading out now disables controls

Animated the torches

New accessability screen asks about screen shake

Replaced the long drop with a holy flame unlockable door

Player 'Listening' animation 1.5s -> .75s

Fixed coins causing the player movement to stutter

Reworked the ending credits

Echo powerup now requires you to hold C

Added Crawlid & Goul enemies (Wizard and others to come)

Fixed chests not dropping loot properly

Added Mana bar and echo attack - tap F right as you hit an enemy to consume the full mana bar (Tutorial to come, need to reshape the game layout to intro mechanics better)

Healthbar has a new FX to emphasise the hit

Fixed echo powerup text not having 'q' readable

Holy fire shortcut through early area

2 chests to be found containing health powerups

Added breakable boxes containing coins, if you gather 100 you can purchase a 3rd health powerup

Added heavy attack which does 2x damage

Reworked level layout to introduce the ghost echoes (Echoes of the past theme) asap, added a new rotating and elavating platform to this effect

Added a new third powerup, Holy Fire, which ignites nearby objects and unlocks new pathways

Modified the camera tracking: jumping should be less jerky, camera always eventually settles centered, axis are indepdendent to prevent moving in one direction causing camera slide in another

Fixed the camera transition during the boss intro cutscene, camera now tracks the player properly

Boss hp from 10->20

Removed the mud hands as they don't feel great yet

Player is a little lighter & floatier to avoid jerky jump movements

Fixed the falling animation not always playing

Fixed a few edge cases where the player could get stuck in terrain if they hit it in the right way

Fixed roll FX not appearing

Cleaned up dividers on the boss title

Fixed title screen not taking you to the intro cutscene
