Welcome to our final devlog for OctoChef!
We’ve been creating a local couch co-op game where the goal is to cook together. The catch however is that you’re an octopus and each player controls one tentacle. For various cooking tasks you’ll have to work together to complete customer orders as they come in.
This week was our last week working on our game! That means the game is almost finished, everyone on the team only has 5 hours left to completely finish. We are so excited to see our end result!
This week, we mainly focused on getting all our base mechanics over that final hurdle of feeling good. We tweaked everything from grabbing to taps to the way scoring works, and have them all in a pretty good state! You can now expect less bugs, more fluid gameplay, and hopefully a smile on your face as you cruise through orders more smoothly than ever in this near-finished iteration of our game.
We also added some subtle haptics to make sure you get really immersed in the realistic situation of being an octopus chef (seriously, it could happen to anyone). Grabbing a knife in OctoChef has never felt more grabbing-a-knife-like!
The artists tweaked a lot of the visuals this week. We’ve improved the lights, added visuals to accent the cooking guide in the beginning of the game and edited some meshes. Most importantly, we’ve added a shader that fades out the tentacles in the front so the players won’t obstruct each other’s vision anymore. And we’ve also added some more VFX.
We’re so excited to finish this last bit and release our polished game! We aim to bring some final touches in these last hours of development, but you can consider it basically done! Soon, it’ll be time for you to try our game!
