The competition has dragged on for longer than the Court ever imagined. Throughout the entire experience, they've been pummeled with constant tragedies—but none quite compare to the events of the third court scandal. Not only was one among them brutally murdered; the conference ended in failure, in nothing short of disaster.
Devastation plagues the remainder of the group. After all, this does not just mean an innocent has perished; the killer is still out there, unpunished and able to continue with their crimes should they will it.
Everyone is on edge, even more so than they've ever had to be in the past. They must constantly look over their shoulders, keep their eyes out for this mysterious murderer—a fact with more consequences than one. After all, if the Court cannot trust one another, they cannot work together. If they cannot work together, how will they ever find a way out of the castle? They must arrive at some kind of compromise if they hope to survive, though every option feels more foolish, more dangerous, than the last.
To make matters worse, at the center of it all, Kostya can hardly manage to concern himself with these issues. Ripped to shreds by the loss of the person dearest to him, his guiding light throughout the course of this ordeal, he finds himself with no direction and even less motivation. Standing up and continuing with regular life would be enough of a challenge; facing the mess that has been left of the group he once relied on is impossible. How can he help them search for answers when he is so broken himself? What has he to contribute, when he feels there is nothing left of him anymore?
As things stand, it appears as though all hope is truly lost. The Court is scattered about, unable to band together, and those within it are hardly better off. Coming across clues is both a blessing and a curse, for it brings them closer to salvation, yet forces them together when such unity is no longer safe; however, it remains unavoidable.
