In this Post I will be discussing new techniques I will be using and some Issues I had beforehand in the interest that some people may learn from my mistakes and even suggest new ideas.
Starting with the most hurtful thing to a project like this one: No plan. I jumped directly into this project by making a movement system then a grappling hook, then eventually I made a small bit of lore that wasn't good at all which caused me to rewrite it. The issue comes when I had already made 5 levels with the previous lore in it.
2. I had no prior experience. I had only made small simulation type games beforehand and 2D stuff. I had no experience in blender so I knew not at all how to make a good level or even decent looking assets.
3. I didn't think of an artstyle. I originally was going for a portal aesthetic but then dropped that plan since It looked like another game.
4. Changing features way after they were originally made. In this example it is my movement system, I had no idea how to make movement so I copied tutorials and that was it, working for a tiny bit until about a month ago I tried to fix the movement and make it feel better. This resulted in a non working grappling hook.
THE FUTURE:
What's coming is a full remake of this game. I feel I didn't do it justice last time and I'm coming back with a year of experience in 3D game engines and a good plan this time. The techniques I will be using are things like Fractal UVs for rocks and such aswell as Specular probes for reflections aswell as cool looking custom assets.
