I think it's time to share the future plans of Window Wars. A roadmap of all planned features.

Roadmap

Multiple Modes

Besides the "standard" Window Wars Deathmatch mode, I'm planning to add different play modes to encourage experimentation with the game, the windows mechanics, and the different abilities. Here are the current plans:

  1. 2v2 Arena mode
  2. Capture the flag with respawn
  3. King of the Hill with respawn
  4. Prop Hunt where you hide as terrain (Lines, Corners, Pickups)
  5. Stealth Football with Pushback ability

More Abilities

Testing has shown that the abilities are balanced enough with a few exceptions. Of course, there are plans for many more abilities, to allow players to buildcraft and find their preferred playstyles. Here are some ideas:

  1. Trap that reveals players
  2. Smokebomb Invisibility
  3. Teleport Beacon. (First use places it somewhere, Second use teleports you to it)
  4. Small and extremely fast sniper projectile, only visible by the shooter
  5. Duel ability, that isolates the user and the affected player. They duel with full visibility (See Mordekaiser Ult, or Rogue Duel)
  6. Tar trap that slows down players and can be ignited by fireballs to explode

These are only some ideas. I'm always open for more ideas and feedback on the current ones.

Ranked System

Matchmaking against opponents of the same skill is always important in games like Window Wars. The current plans include:

  1. Ranked Ladders for all playable modes
  2. Cosmetic rewards for achieving ranks
  3. Leaderboards
  4. Automatic tournaments
  5. Matchmaking based on skill and ELO
  6. Just for fun modes or seasonal events

There is an ongoing discussion in our community server, on whether Window Wars should follow a "classic" Bronze -> Diamond structure, or implement something like "prestige" for exclusive rewards.

In Game Chat

Chat in competitive games can be a lot of fun. It can also be very toxic. To combat the issues, I've thought of integrating in-game chat as a game mechanic. 

To be specific, chatting or emoting will reveal your position on the map. This allows players to hinder themselves if you want to be toxic but also taunt or style on other people with fun bantering.

This is very much a topic for discussion and will take a lot of testing to make right.

More of everything, including:

  1. More pickup abilities
  2. More levels
  3. More customizable trails and achievements
  4. More cosmetics
  5. More UI updates
  6. Replay system and Spectate mode additions
  7. Friends Lists and party invites
  8. General infrastructure and performance improvements
