Small Patch 1.0.4

Small Patch 1.0.4 released!

With the jam's rating period over, I can finally release a patch, here's what has been changed:

Bug Fixes:

• Fixed a critical bug that prevented players from completing the game in version 1.0.3.
• Fixed a bug that would cause the game to improperly scale the window at vertical resolutions.
• Fixed a bug that would cause the player to get stuck when walking near certain objects.

Gameplay Improvements:

• Adjusted the game’s brightness levels to better accommodate various monitors.
• Adjusted player flashlight range.
• Fixed an issue related to anti-aliasing that caused strange artifacts.
• Enhanced the VHS filter to improve legibility of fine text.
• Added an option to disable the grain filter, which YouTube’s compression algorithm dislikes.
• Introduced additional environmental objects.
• Tweaked the position of some environmental objects to prevent the player from walking into them as easily.
• Optimized the render distance of foliage to improve performance.
• Changed notepad sounds.
• Adjusted footstep volume levels.

Under the Hood:

• Rewrote the interaction system to be input-based rather than tick-based. This change should help avoid framerate-related bugs.

Ongoing Development Goals:

• Rewrite the notepad and flashlight code to work more seamlessly with the new interaction system.
• Enhance alien AI to enable more meaningful interactions with players.
• Add player voice lines.
• Update programmer’s art.
• Add proper settings menu & brightness/gamma slider.
  

Lack of time and other projects are forcing me to leave Night Lights alone for now.
