Wow, I can't believe it's already been a year since the jam version of this game came out. It's almost like a completely different game now! To start off, here's a screenshot comparison of the jam version and a screenshot I took just a few minutes ago. Both are of the game's first level.
When I opened the original to take the screenshot, I was honestly flabbergasted at how different it looked! Seeing the same thing over and over while working on it, it's easy to forget how far you've come. I had been doubting how good the graphics were, but now I'm quite impressed with myself. I especially have my partner Dakk to thank, as he's really helped with the colors and some touching up here and there. (He also kinda does all the character sprites, animations, a few environmental sprites, the fonts, all of the character portrait art...)
There is still a ways to go before I'm satisfied with how everything looks, but here's to progress!
Yes, that's the background from the minigame. Yes, I will eventually make a new one just for cutscenes.
I'd also like to touch on how amazed I am at how much traction Club Valentine has got. We've made over $200 on it! A jam game! That's entirely through donations! There have also been over 15k downloads and nearly 40k page views. Even a year after its release, it's getting over 100 views and roughly 25 downloads per day. I really can't even fathom how much that is, especially for something so small that was made in a month.
I don't really know where I'm going with this, other than I really hope everyone is pleased with the final product. I can't wait for people to get to know the characters I've written and for you to experience all of the new levels and environments and mechanics.
