Slow week

Dyson Spells
A downloadable game

Yup, didn't do much this week. Retooled Establish First Contact a bit, to make the options make sense with the wider context of not having been in contact with anyone off-Colony for decades. Also retooled the What's your Colony like? part of the Genesis, to remind people that they're free to make up their own. I actually ran some people through this whole Genesis thing, and that was the part that they got stuck on because they didn't feel like the options were "enough", which, to me, reads as a good place to put a reminder.

I did start work on the "Facing the Threat" Clock, and boy it's been hard figuring out a way to make it work for any kind of Threat! Which probably means I should be going in another direction entirely - if working on something is too clunky to design because it's too generic, it probably means that it should be less generic. But then again, I do want to at least be able to cover both "swarm of space beetles might eat your planet" and "evil corp trying to integrate you within its framework", which are somewhat different thematically and in how you approach them.

Speaking of approach, I'm trying to figure out a way to let people talk things out / find peaceful solutions (as I definitely want to avoid making military conflict a focal point of a game's segment), but without being too... like, too "naive" about it? Maybe this should be about understanding and corraling the "Threat" until it's not a threat anymore rather than "facing" it.

Anyway, that's it for this week! I'll have people over next week for, well, the entire week, so I may not have much time for Dyson Spells, but I'll still post an update! Discipline, routine and all that.
