Whats a bad idea you might consider when starting your first waste water treatment plant? Acid! Acid is not used in Waste Water treatment plants, but if it was, sulfuric acid should eat through both the average plastic and organic debris. It has a ton of drawbacks however:

1. It eats through helpful enzymes as well
2. It gets washed off if the debris gets submerged 
3. It (will) makes terrible smells and will be sure to reduce nearby land value!
4. It eats up debris too fast, giving a chance to spawn fecal muck on the pool floor when debris is destroyed, which can potentially lead to a great deal of algae on the pool floor
