DevLog #1 - Car Crash šŸš—šŸ’„

Hello Coders šŸ‘¾

Iā€™m super excited to share with you the journey of my latest project, a game Iā€™ve affectionately named ā€œCar Crash.ā€ Letā€™s buckle up and dive into the development process together!

šŸŽ“ Why the devlog?

So, Iā€™ve been following this awesome game development course thatā€™s been using Unity, and guess what? Iā€™m just a couple of lessons from the finish line. But instead of just doing the assignments, I thought, why not apply what Iā€™m learning directly into my final game project? Thatā€™s right, Iā€™m all about that practical application!

Most of the time, these assignments have us add features to a new game or one weā€™ve been building throughout the course. And this week, Iā€™ve revved up the engines and started working on my game. The current lesson? All about audio, baby! šŸŽ¶

šŸŽ® What is the game about?

ā€œCar Crashā€ is a little nod to one of the first games I ever made back in the ā€˜90s. Picture this: youā€™re driving a car represented by a #, trying to stay within the roadā€™s borders marked by !. Those borders would zigzag randomly, and you had to swerve to stay on track.

Fast forward to now, itā€™s shaping up to be an endless scroller where youā€™re behind the wheel, dodging obstacles left and right. Iā€™m using the SimpleTown assets from Synthy Studios.

šŸ›£ļø What is done so far?

Iā€™ve been burning rubber on this project, and hereā€™s what Iā€™ve got under the hood so far:

  • Generating the road: Iā€™ve got a bunch of road prefabs, some plain, some with obstacles, and even a crossing. Itā€™s all randomly generated to keep you on your toes.
  • Car movement: When you steer, the car tilts a bit to give you that immersive feel.
  • World movement: The world moves beneath you, creating an endless game illusion. Old pieces get removed, and new ones appear ahead, like magic!

And for the assignmentā€™s sake, Iā€™ve added some sweet tunes, engine sounds, and skid noises for when youā€™re pulling off those tight maneuvers.

šŸŽµ Whatā€™s next?

The road ahead includes:

  • Adding more sounds, especially one for when you crash and burn (hopefully not literally).
  • Implementing collisions with obstacles for that dramatic explosion effect.
  • Introducing a mute option for the audio, because sometimes you just need a little quiet time.

Stay tuned for the next update where Iā€™ll be fine-tuning these features and maybe even throwing in a few surprises!

So, what do you think of ā€œCar Crashā€ so far? Iā€™d love to hear your thoughts, feedback, or even your own experiences with game development. Drop a comment below, and letā€™s chat!

If youā€™re digging this dev journey and donā€™t want to miss any of the action, make sure to subscribe or follow for more updates. I canā€™t wait to share more of this adventure with you!

Until next time, keep those engines running and those creative ideas flowing.

Happy gaming!
