STB? CTB? ATB? Battle system timings.

Right now Asqueria uses a standard turn based battle system. This is the default in RPGMaker - Actually one of the only default settings I didn't change. My thought was that it should make the game echo a more CRPG/TTRPG vibe, but I'm not sure that was successful.

But now I'm thinking something like ATB might be the right fit - Running thru the 90s FFs recently reminded me that indeed, it can feel a bit more engaging.  However, it does rob the player of their ability to actually think about what's going on in combat.  

That's really a pet peeve of mine - A lot of people have become fixated on "real time fast paced" gameplay, but that type of gameplay does not allow any introspection or thought. You're never really digesting the experience, you're just blasting your dopamine receptors with the next stimulus, then the next, then the next.  And so, I'm just not sure. Maybe one of the weird hybrids like OTB/CTB would work. 

For now, I suppose I'll leave it as is, but strongly considering moving to ATB. If you have thoughts on this, I'd love to hear them!
