V0.3.0 Update: Graphics Overhaul
This update took longer because of the holidays. I also got sick, which always slows things down. The bulk of the update is a graphics overhaul. I spent a lot of time trying to nail down the look and feel of the game by picking colors, drawing UI, creating item icons and meshes.
- New shader is applied to all meshes to give it a flat, stylized look. I'm pretty happy with it but I suspect I'll keep tuning it over time.
- Created a day night cycle with corresponding color schemes
- Added icon images to all items. This is a huge QOL improvement since the player can quickly see which items they have
- Developer tool paint brush to make level editing and object placements easier
- Added terrain walls as a concept. Previously players would be worried about cutting all the trees since they used them as natural walls against enemies.
- Added large trees which have more wood and are taller
- Redid a lot of the models for trees, rocks, iron, etc. Gave each some variation
- Drew some UI components
- Created the Spaceship Onboard AI (SAI) dialog. SAI will be your companion and guide for learning the game. Also, any future notifications and alerts will be announced via SAI.
- Some bug fixes
These are coming up in the following release late February:
- Sound system! So far there is no sound. I'll be focusing on making harvesting resources more satisfying by adding some sound effects.
- A new enemy type. I am thinking either a ranged attacker or a highly armored slow poke
- A few more buildings. I haven't decided which yet, though.
A huge thanks to anyone who has play tested and given me feedback. Please keep it coming!
