I mocked around in RPG Maker, and parallax mapping was a nice way to break the limitations and throw in some isometric like looking maps, however the movement is still technically not isometric (it works as a diametric mixed with orthogonal type of perspective) in RM, it moves the same in all directions making it not match with a pure isometric tile based game, I guess most don´t mind about that sort of thing and in a lot of ways in RPG Maker everything just looks great!
