Hello everyone! This is Endurance v0.0.6 and the beginnings of collectables.
Collectables in Endurance are split into two categories: power-ups and "power-downs." Power-ups can be collected and stored in the player's inventory and can be activated at any time with a key press. Only one power-up can be used at a time. "Power-downs" or "traps" can also be collected, but they automatically take effect when touched by the player. These collectables have negative effects on the player, but only one "power-down" can be active at once.
Well... just one. It's taking a lot of set-up to get ready to add more collectables, so this first power-up took awhile. So far, the only collectable added is a power-up: the screen wipe. Using it immediately clears the screen of enemies (no points are gained). It is one of three planned power-ups for the game.
The other two power-ups can be viewed by pressing the down arrow key in-game to toggle the inventory. Note that power-ups can be used even when the inventory isn't open.
I'm not sure how I feel about the current implementation of and plan for collectables so far, so if you have any comments about how you think it should work, please give the current version of the game a try and let me know in the comments of this devlog or on the main game page.
