chapter 8, part 1 - release note

CHAPTER 8 IS HERE! ...well, half of it at least! this chapter has a lot going on, so i decided to split it into two releases.

the major/notable updates are as follows:

• TRICK COMES HOME, PART 1! the main story continues...
• ALTERNATE ENDINGS! no details here due to spoilers :) find them if you can!
• CUTSCENE SKIP! hold ctrl to go fast
• system items! switch light/dark mode whenever you want (may require new game to receive the items)

this is my first time releasing only half a chapter, so i want to explain why i decided to do it this way...

when i released chapter 7 last year, i promised that chapter 8 would be finished in 2023. i spent much of that time completely unable to work on the game, instead focusing on other projects. this is nothing new for longtime treat fans—there was a 3 year gap between the release of chapter 6 and 7.

now here we are at the end of 2023… and it turns out chapter 8 is REALLY long! there was a satisfying midpoint i could end it at, so i decided to split it into two parts. now everyone can see the new content without waiting another year...!

the funny thing about this update is that chapter 8 is not the only new story included in this build… there is a full chapter’s worth of bonus content that you can find if you look hard enough. it’s very much something you have to go out of the way for, but i hope the quality of the bonus stuff makes up for chapter 8’s split release! there is plenty to chew on in this build… and the next update should be similarly packed with good stuff :)

so when IS the next update?

all i can say is that Trick Comes Home, Part 2 will be released when it is ready.

let me know if you guys would like to see updates with only the aforementioned secret bonus content or if i should wait to drop it all with the rest of chapter 8, because i haven’t decided what would be best... the reason i’m considering it at all is because the secret stuff is divided into smaller and easier to finish parts. either way, the latest builds will always be made available to patrons :)
