#armoredarachnid #update #bugfixes
Merry Christmas! I've been busy working on some new content for Armored Arachnid and have just finished preparing a second demo! This update mainly adds two additional planets and a level selection interface, so all three planets I was intending to have available at the start of the game are now present and playable to an extent. You'll be able to run through the first 10 waves on each of the planets; as I've yet to design any of the more "advanced" versions of planets that are played after the first, the current game ends after clearing one planet.
The level select features Jifu (full name Jifuzylles, but she doesn't like being called that), a returning character from the original Dark Space! She's a character I've been slowly redesigning over the years, and although she's made a cameo appearance in Jumble Rumble, one of my small games, she's otherwise been absent for several years. Originally one of the stage bosses, recent circumstances involving a mutual enemy and the disappearance of her family have turned her into your slightly-less-than-enthusiastic ally. She'll offer some particularly crass dialogue as she informs you of some planetary dangers you can expect. Do your best to tolerate her until the next update, when she might decide to be a little more helpful...
Speaking of the next update, I'm planning to focus on my planned equipment/upgrade system, in which permanent upgrades will drop from the game's bosses and can be managed and equipped when you're back on the main menu. I'm still figuring out exactly how I want to incorporate the system, so I opted to prioritize new levels, enemies, and bosses for this demo; I'm hopeful that having multiple planets with different types of enemies now will assist me in the process of designing alternative weapons that can replace the default weapon (for example, I believe that Fabor is the most difficult planet with the default weapon, but I expect a low-range, high-damage melee weapon to perform particularly well there while having more trouble on the other planets).
Well, that's enough rambling for now. I hope everyone enjoys the new content and has a wonderful Christmas!
