This month's update cleaned up a lot of the codebase, but is mostly centered around adding NPCs and a dialogue system.
Using Dialogue Manager for Godot 4 by nathanhoad, there's now a robust infrastructure in place that I can use to write dialogue unique to each character and each set of in-game circumstances. There will be a ton of writing to do, but that's a future me problem.
I've also written a pretty sturdy NPCManager system to handle NPC pathfinding based on terrain obstructions. Next steps for NPCs are a schedule system, so they travel from place to place sensibly at appropriate times. Currently they just wander.
Next big update will likely be a crafting menu, but we'll see.
